if you somehow havent read Lathe of Heaven yet it's been living in my head since i read it last fall

and if you somehow haven't read botns (or it's been long enough to revisit it), highly endorse a readalong with the shelved by genre eps!

This is why his career fell off. The Lathe of Heaven got too heavy.
The problem with how the Nick Castellanos meme got expanded is that it stopped being sustainable in the world we're living in; he'd have to have hit like 67 home runs last year for it to still be plausible.

Argh.

5 hours or work down the toilet.

Making a pin for another department, lathe work is done, milling in some angles on the CNC, almost finished and… fuck.

I either went past my zero or the pin walked out of the collet a little and then it got all chewed up.

Oh well. Working on another now.

I've shown my pen off in every meeting I've had this week. I'm lathe-pilled.
I went to an acrylic pen turning workshop with some people I know from an artist alley discord, and I learned to use a lathe! I made a chunky tiger penboy!

I'm happy to hear your grand wants to learn how to use a lathe. Woodworking skills last a lifetime. And from grandpa!

Graham Duff, (writer of IDEAL, owner of heavens lathe) played 2! Count them 2! Tinned Meats songs on his show, more to come in following episodes.
www.totallyradio.com/shows/mixtap...
Graham was introduced to Tinned Meats via Greg Healey @omero.bsky.social who we can’t thank enough for his support!!

58 seems like the typical age to be getting your first lathe

Sure but other durable goods have more history and heritage. Accountants can do a pretty good job modeling how long a lathe would last at an auto plant. We've had lathes for hundreds of years. We've never actually watched an AI data center fully depreciate

Older grandson wants to try to turn a baseball bat on his grandpa’s lathe and off they go to check the lathe and look for blanks. Never say never. Esp when it’s sports or making something.

Why are you just touching the lathe of heaven and all y'know

Please secure all loose clothing and long hair before using the lathe of heaven

He used the wrong robot. That one's a job for the CNC lathe, not the FDM printer.

we don't think about this stuff anymore. different times. but in my opinion, it's sick

Trying to come up with some projects that don’t use the lathe while I’m on the hunt for a new one, so I decided to revisit some of the map designs I’ve made but never cut. Let me know what you think!

Finished The Lathe of Heaven over the weekend and it's a classic for a reason. A timeless book that changes with the times. In the story & dynamic of Dr Haber and George Orr I saw a reflection of our political landscape and the dangers of AI #booksky

With a big enough lathe I can make an Earth bowl.
