#Doomerism
Maddening. He conflates doomerism with legitimate scientific and social concern for current and future (significant) impacts of climate change.

Every time I have the unfortunate experience of coming across something Elon Musk said it only makes me dislike him more. He’s just so creepy. Terminally obsessed with rightwing politics. It’s un-American in my view. He’s got nothing positive to say ever. It’s all doomerism 24/7.

Let's not confuse "can't do it" with "won't do it". Those are two separate things. People who say we can't are submitting to doomerism, which is unproductive. They should just go off and party, while the rest of us do the best we can to make the future a little better.

The 🇩🇪 Meteorological & Physical Societies have recently warned that global warming is accelerating, with the potential to reach +3°C by around 2050. The 🇬🇧's Institute & Faculty of Actuaries projects that such a scenario could result in > 4 billion human deaths. Would you call that doomerism or not?

"When we think of climate anxiety, it tends to be focused on an individual, psychological viewpoint. Our results point to a collective dimension with implications for climate politics." -Holly Jean Buck

And the thing is, if you actually talk to Normal People™️ about this sorta stuff, it's the positive uplifting stories & actions that people wanna hear & that encourage them to get involved. The doomerism just makes people go "oh what's the fucking point in caring then".

its ridiculous. they just steal exercises from books . its predatory imo. and all the youtube animators who were cashing in on student artists are now shouting doomerism from the rooftops ab “industry is dead” instead of using that money to fund their own studios 😂

It is so weird that somehow talking about and calling attention to massive existential problems being ignored or worse is framed as doomerism but pretending they aren’t real or will magically resolve themselves on their own is somehow not

It is not doomerism to point out that using the Democratic Party as a vehicle for hope is delusional. Acknowledging this fact is for many (including myself) the first step towards glimpsing a truly brighter future

What’s cool about this site is that there are Democratic electeds that fight back daily and no one boosts their accounts. But people love to retweet doomerism.

BUT DON’T GIVE INTO DOOMERISM!!
I want you to stare at these words. Think about ICE raids impacting farm, packing, processing, delivery and restaurant workers. And now think about rollbacks on food safety and disease. And now think about effects from climate change. Now think about fund cuts. Now greedflation and shrinkflation.
If we thought the housing market crash was bad, the food supply crash is a million times worse and it’s in the mail.

The same as has been for the last month, since the National Guard is still not deployed here in Portland. Stop it with this doomerism.

AI doomerism is counterproductive. We are not on the brink of AGI, and there are far more immediate concerns to tackle. LLMs pose serious economic/environmental threats, and big tech will use them for rent seeking. When you push this loose apocalyptic talk, you cede ground to big tech.

I don't do doomerism. But I would prefer the answer to doomerism be something more actionable than cherrypicking and wishcasting.

If your model for future Democratic control of the Senate rests on Kansas, you'd better have a plan to win Kansas.

Same way apartheid South Africa was brought down. It came in time, and so will the collapse of Israel. I'm certainly not going to give into doomerism that it isn't possible, I'm not sure how that helps Palestinian people.

It isn't doomerism until you say it's too late to stop.

I don’t see it as doomerism to understand how things are broken because I have the confidence that we can fix them if everyone pulled their heads out of their asses.

obviously following through and the ensuing public response aren’t a given, but at this point you can’t dispute the maximal doomerism towards how they *want* the midterms to go

True

It just seems like anytime I mention the patients who can’t access these drugs due to price gouging, the general reaction is something like “who cares” and it’s doomerism for mentioning it

Part of that doomerism is that when Democrats have power, they don’t use it they go for stupid bipartisan brain bullshit

Use your fucking power to crush this authoritarian shit
