#Digression
Trump went on a long digression about venomous snakes in his remarks to the White House holiday party. Festive.
Sweaty Trump Rambles About Snakes and Thirsts Over Ivanka Lookalike
Surprise, surprise: Trump went off-script.

i love how me RPG posting led to a digression on Mormon transhumanism and metaphysics
I think it's partly that but also Mormon metaphysics is a lot more transhumanist in practice than regular Catholic/Protestant Christian metaphysics
Wonder if it is because they had a rather bad/apocalyptic origin story w/the US so that leaves a mark. My husband went to public school in Utah for awhile growing up and it included much of the history of Mormons, some of which really is eyebrow raising.

New post: After a long digression about Liu Zongyuan, I quote Zhang Dai on how people really should have a fixation or two.
Snow, and the Heart of the Lake
Like three and a half translations of Liu Zongyuan that I don't like, and one of Zhang Dai that I do.

Anyway, that's just a digression. But a side note is that AAA advertising isn't nearly THAT cutthroat. Because in general people play more than one AAA game. Nobody expects you to play Assassin's Creed forever, but the business models of F2P mobile usually requires very long retention.

The thing I really like about Steve's reporting is epitomised by these little media digests he does. No frenzied speculation, or pointless vox pops, just a very sober digression of what the average Russian citizen is seeing in their media diet. I wish more foreign correspondents did this.
Steve Rosenburg really is essential viewing on Russia.

More insight in 3 minutes than you will get elsewhere in a week.

"Nearly 60% of Russian regions have hole in their budgets over 600 billion roubles": Russian paper.

sorry, but when you have one wrestler bite another wrestler's dick it's hard not to make that the focus of the episode.

i wasn't expecting the minotaur sex digression though.
Winter is Coming is one of AEW's biggest Dynamite shows and the 2025 edition may have been the best one yet. Tune in to this week's WNFF to hear us discuss newly crowned champions, banger C2 matches, enemies to lovers, and one of if not the most memorable spots of the year! (cont.) 🐕

Another thing about FAMILY TIES at least in the first season is it expects the audience to have an awareness of current events from the Beatles to the Reagan administration. The one I watched last night allowed Steven a long digression on the party he and Elyse threw when Nixon resigned.

Because voters in enough constituencies thought it a good idea to confirm the hegemony of right wing conservative authority in AB.
Once you elect them they can do what they like.
A digression.
That used to be subject to the Charter.
But then the UCP re-discovered notwithstanding.

The pencils and dolls take had a bizarrely infantile edge, like an attempt to be avuncular but coming off as Scrooge?

The pencil digression in today’s talk was hilarious as in delightfully random. I don’t think he was thinking of favorites one picks up at a stationers or art supply store.

I was fucking terrified before the appointment, walked in, and within 5 minutes while he was doing the basic orientation questions and got to "what you had for dinner last night", we were off on a wild ADHD digression tangent about making cinnamon rolls in a waffle maker and why it was so awesome

It was also a creepy and out-of-the-blue digression on Star Trek Discovery....

It IS brutal. And Hammett never tells the reader what Spade is thinking or feeling, only what he's doing or saying. Probably the only reliable compass of Spade's worldview is that weird, lovely digression about Flitcraft. That and his insistence on not playing the sap.

It wasn't long ago that book chapters were, “CHAPTER 7 - In which our lovable scoundrels find themselves on a swaying mail-carriage bound at break-neck speed for Peking pursued by the top sharpshooter of the French Foreign Legion; also a digression about red peppers.”

We have so much to relearn.

Weird digression, I know, but stay with me.

Even just saying "Be honest" would have been a fucked up response from the person in charge of moderation. For it to be taken from a meme with gross gender dynamics, very much in line with GenX cynicism?

It's rather South Park esque, isn't it?

So, like, never do this list and if I want a digression cover the important facts first and then maybe flag “bonus thoughts” before I start?

Both digress because the digression is the point. Both believe that character is best revealed in an anecdote, table manners or a badly-timed joke, more so than a battle record.

Blessed that my union is led by white men writing 3000-word emails to self-congratulate while quoting the Bible, white women pretending to work from the inside to fix things while dreaming of being the next provost, and culture warriors who periodically send emails calling everything a digression

For Thomas and Alito, it's regular FOX news brain poisoning. Remember the ACA questioning and one of those two went on a baffling digression about broccoli that was ripped straight from FOX? They've drunken the brain worms punch
My theory, fwiw, is that Supreme Court Justices are not immune to Twitter brain poisoning. I suspect all six have horrific information environments and have therefore lost the ability to understand the people who don't agree with them.
The part that I can't figure out is what John Roberts thinks he is doing. He used to seem to be a judge who was very attentive to appearances, I think on a theory that you can't draw too much attention to yourself without undermining your ability to continue to shape the law.

Very meandering discussion (including a digression about living in London) but we got to talk about dice in the end!

The psychology behind this instinct fascinates me, partly bc it is so widespread, but also? Because I feel it too, and I struggle to understand why.

To be clear, I'd never include Buckley in any sort of small-l liberal tent. But the broad asymmetry here resonates, even as I resist (and resent) it.

You can hear many of the fun & weird & delightful different directions that Prince took the song (a 90s house remix! A gangster rap fantasia! A jazzy instrumental guitar digression! A… fable in which Prince plays a character called “Violet the Organ Grinder”?) here: open.spotify.com/album/2VX5u6...
