Remember, in totalitarian states, among the first people to be silenced are the artists, the poets, the writers. There's a reason for that.

Be that reason.

If you do art, keep doing art. Do it with as much passion as you can muster. Express yourself.
This is your reminder that writing is a political action.

A coworker took this from her apartment. I haven't seen a crowd this size before. Maybe the first Women's March? But it was much much warmer that day. ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA!

ICE attacked an observer after they tailed a group of clergy on a spiritual pilgrimage.

Our digital producer @sam.vp just so happened to be with the clergy on their journey. He spoke with the observer who was attacked and others who witnessed the assault.

I’m the kind of cyclist who _____________.

Noodles along at a relatively slow pace, looking at stuff, stopping periodically to take a photo or admire somebody's dog.

You don’t know your role yet maybe, but we are all finding out just what we have to offer.

In Minneapolis, one man knew immediately what he could offer and said “Bring me your clothing”.

At the end of this sentence, rain will begin.
At the rain's edge, a sail.

Happy birthday to Derek Walcott, who knew how to take a sentence for a walk.

This is a great piece on the mess of Neom (Saudi Arabia):

"The “chandelier” (the central upside-down skyscraper) was derailed by the fact that the earth spins, the wind blows, and human waste can’t be flushed upward."

Watching Jack Smith testify...and lawdy, is there a creepier, more repulsive piece of work than Jim Jordan? There's something deeply sweaty and unappealing about him.

This entire thread is heartening. I mean it literally makes you take heart, to be encouraged (again, literally gaining courage), and it does it without minimizing what's taking place in Minneapolis.

Everybody who cares about democracy and community should read this.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Our city has been over-run by Nazi ghouls kidnapping people to traffic them to concentration camps and other countries.
Did you ever think you'd see the day when masked gunmen jump out of moving vehicles and chase families down the street in your own neighborhood?
FUCK ICE forever and ever.

I agree with much of what this guy says, though not with his conclusion. A throttle on an ebike limited to 20mph isn't the problem; in fact it's useful. The problem is the power of e-motos that are marketed as Class 3 ebikes, but are designed to be ridden like motorcycles.
Seems like New Jersey is about to reclassify all e-bikes as electric motorcycles (requiring a license, insurance, motorcycle helmet, etc.). Crazy!

The bill was passed but the governor hasn’t signed it yet.
