Today we will be introducing a bill to turn off the toxic 'recommender' algorithms for under 18s.

It will also ensure that recommender algorithms based on profiling or sensitive personal data have to be actively turned on by adult users.

Now that almost every social media system in the US is owned by like, 3 people, the existence of open algorithms and protocols becomes totally critical

Turn off the toxic algorithms!

Today I introduced the "Online Safety (Recommender Algorithms) Bill 2025".

This is what the public wants, what Coimisiún na Meán have previously recommended, what the Oireachtas AI Committee currently recommends... but will the government actually do it?

Exactly! Scientific useful machine learning algorithms are NOT the same as generalized llm/genAI systems.

And the lack of distinction among all, even opponents, continues to make this discussion impossible.

Oh no. My rage bait post only does numbers on sites with rage bait algorithms.
A tale of three apps. Identical post sent at the same time:

Twitter: 136,000 likes, 20,000 shares

Threads: 46,000 likes, 4,000 ahares

Bluesky: 149 likes, 45 shares

To be clear, I have 60k followers on Twitter, 15k on Bluesky, but only 7k on Threads.

I love Bluesky, but this isn't sustainable.

Imagine using a social media site that uses algorithms instead of a linear timeline to follow a sporting event.

Wouldn’t be me!!!
Tracking Bsky user activity during Bears-Rams: you can really see the exact moment that Caleb made the throw to take it to OT, and then there's another peak but idk what that is let's ignore that one

🚨BREAKING: Elon Musk is experimenting with a complete alteration and massive change to X/Twitter algorithms and functionality after Threads passed it in daily and monthly active users. If insider reports are to be believed, Elon has threatened his staff with mass layoffs.

I think we need to talk about how the trans influencer/journalist community has a fearmongering problem. it's not just this one (very extreme) case of an FBI letter hoax.

Social media algorithms encourage sensationalism, and many large trans influencers and outlets routinely spread fear unjustly.
just because I do need to say this, yes it's very harmful to lie about things like FBI letters. it scares people. I heard of at least one person who may have used that as a reason to leave the country.

it's important everyone should always take social media rumors like that with a grain of salt.

The only people who benefit from replacing human creativity in our communities with algorithms are the super-rich owners of AI companies that rip off artists’ work.

We're calling for urgent regulation and safeguards to ensure people and planet are put before profit.

Bravo Canada 🇨🇦 PM Mark Carney

Let’s all remove our signs, stop posting pics of the malignancy & its cancerous tentacles which only boost the algorithms of the toxic media whores. No redemption for the guilty.

Twitter (so-called "X") has been weaponized for Russian information warfare by Elon Musk. Its algorithms promote trolls and bots making personal attacks and downgrade people expressing ideas. Twitter has become Trump's electronic brain: a chaotic mix of vitriol, anger and spite.

"The messages actually help Lively’s case, but so far, the public response has been a redux of Depp v. Heard. And in addition to reorienting social media algorithms around conservative influencers, it’s obvious how these ideological leanings would push people in a more patriarchal direction, too."
You don’t need to care about celebrity news. But what you should know is that right-wing content creators have built a viral online pipeline that directs pop culture consumers—especially women—from celeb gossip to conservative news and commentary.

5/ Bottom line: Meet people where they are. What matters to them? We’re all subject to the billionaires’ algorithms. The way to escape is simple: talk to people. Speak to those in your circles; that’s how you break through and bypass it. We #EscapeTheAlgorithm by connecting human to human.

Just use your god damned labels because this stuff seeps through the cracks due to algorithms anyways.

My response to someone sharing quotes from a MAGA influencer on FB that has no basis in fact. Don’t see her much since the algorithms keep us separate. And not at all anymore, since she blocked me after I posted.

Something I keep wondering: Why does the modern world make me feel so crazy & abnormal for wanting to be judged on the merits of my books rather than some attention-fucked digitised surface *notion* of my books, brewed by algorithms? Why do I feel so way out fucking controversial for desiring that?
