This research was published 14 months ago. In *Nature*.

Three months BEFORE Wes Streeting announced a "permanent ban" on puberty-blockers.

& yesterday, the Tories insisted you don't even need a clinical trial to keep that ban, forever...

Evidence has now emerged of the adverse consequences of the laws banning GAHT for trans youth in both the US and UK. This includes sharp declines in mental health and increased suicide attempts among transgender young people.

This pissed me off so much. It's also stupid because the response from Scottish people won't be "we should vote Anas Sarwar because he can get money from Westminster", it will be "what the fuck? They won't fund Scotland if Sarwar isn't there?"
stuck the speech on for 10 mins while I eat lunch. she’s just said £820m for the Scottish government over the period due to the Barnett formula, then repeated it and said it’s because Anas Sarwar asked for it

low stakes maybe but again: they need a much stronger “is that true though?” instinct

Fun fact I couldn't mention until now: At the time Graham Linehan was harassing Sophia Brooks online, I was contacted by her former teachers and School Safeguarding Team to get her latest contact details, as they were worried sick about her being publicly stalked by an abusive alcoholic celebrity.

It's wild that you still see people acting like being trans is some newfangled concept. Even in the very skewed version of our history, medical transition has been a thing for decades

I know better than to engage with them, but whenever I see a "so a man says he's a woman and that makes him a woman? ridiculous", I'm sorely tempted to respond with "yeah, and what's up with people saying they're 'flying' somewhere? Human beings can't fly"

I wonder if I spent all day, every day, for years, calling Graham Linehan - or the judge - a nonce and then, when I saw him in the street screamed it in his face and smashed his phone, would a judge find I had done no harassing?

And that's not even factoring in the age of his victim

Also I mean as an SNP person I can say that for third parties on this island this shit often happens as a gradual learning process. Expecting everything to be perfect from the getgo is counter to the point.
Honestly, I think some centre-left criticisms of Green policy are fair. But if Labour keeps alienating its natural supporters the Greens will become more viable, more progressive policy experts could start gravitating towards them, and their policy offer could gradually become more compelling.
tbh Polanski seems to have avoided most of the big MMT heffalump traps (allowing that "inflation doesn't go higher" was a misspeak), I'm relatively impressed at whoever's advising him.

Something that should be laid at the feet of Wes Streeting and likewise the SNP dragging their heels in Scotland -

If hormone therapy saves the lives of trans youth, what, logically, does that mean denying that care achieves?
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

yes I don't really see how you can go "oh yikes these people have changed their political views incredibly quickly, mostly because of what Very Online people talk about on social media" and also think that people who went from never talking about gender to calling trans women predators are....normal
I don’t like subtweeting people I consider online friends, but there is a subset of people who are very worried about the ongoing radicalisation of our political elite but won’t ever acknowledge the echoes with the radicalisation of their colleagues on trans rights
And few who are sympathetic to us, some who are friendly with me on here, will ever stick their head above the parapet

Forseeing a time when the judiciary is infested by the same "Rishi Sunak isn't even English" radicalisation that's taken the right, and some people are blindsided because they thought "this trans girl said she was alarmed and distressed, but I don't believe her" was impartial application of the law
To tie back to my comparison to other online radicalisation, even if you don't give a shit about trans people, the judiciary becoming increasingly partial on a specific issue should be seen as the canary in the coal mine giving the current direction of travel in this country
Like it was obvious when the Supreme Court randomly decided to rewrite the Equality Act, but I think there's a large amount if journalistic negligence that no one really treats judges as anything other than neutral conduits through which the word of law moves

This is a very, very sad reminder that lifelong arseholes, abusers and bigots leave behind them a long trail of people who know exactly who and what they are, but whose chance of getting a hearing is a lottery dependent on other people's interest.
Still can't quite believe that "I only said 'gas the Jews' in a non-hurtful way" was the strategy Nigel Farage opted to go for

A very, very important peer-reviewed empirical study published in the academic journal Pediatrics shows that hormone treatment of young trans people decreases suicidality very significantly.

Doubtless it will be ignored by Simonoff et al, who are not even measuring this in the “Pathways” study.

Yeah the pre-emptive nihilism people display is *very obviously* a self-fulfilling prophesy and extremely in fact part of shifting our cultural norms in exactly the direction Farage et al would prefer. Care, care simply because it matters, and it matters to you. Say as much publicly.
All the supposedly progressive people saying 'Nigel Farage's racism doesn't matter. His fans love it'.

It matters whether the leader of the party leading all the opinion polls is an outright racist. It matters if he called black people 'wogs' and said 'gas them' to Jews. Not everything is a game

at absolute best the Cass Review should only impact NHS trans youth healthcare.

But by banning hormone blockers for trans youth as a whole it essentially collapsed any potential for youths to avoid government sanctioned pathways if they wanted to.

No other citizen is treated this way in the UK.
Exactly. I keep hearing this in news & remember reading the review & it saying something where PBs were considered necessary they should be given sooner or it was just extra medication for no outcome & also that GIDS shouldn't be so London centric & appointments should be quicker & more accessible?!

This is the thing for me too. Examples of trans people supposedly "going too far", when they are actually provided, typically cite things that aren't particularly recent. Trans-inclusive sporting rules were often decades old!
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the "they went too far" line. At all. Who specifically went where? Why was this "too far"? It's seemingly a throw away line to try and make anything else sound "reasonable", including wholesale second class citizenship.
Sarah McBride talks to the Advocate, blames trans advocates for absolutism, and going directly to Trans 301 when people are just at Trans 101. Doesn't specify whose rights we should throw under the bus but presumably unpopular things like child sports, blockers, etc. @rikiwilchins.bsky.social

when I say journalism is dead and has been replaced by PR I'm not kidding you.

This is literally a sponsored article minus the BBC getting paid (as far as we know).
It’s perplexing that the BBC is currently under scrutiny for a supposed liberal bias in favour of trans rights.
Here, a spokesperson for an anti-trans group is quoted, the article says that trans inclusion would be illegal (it wouldn’t) and lists an anti-trans organisation for more info.

As a Lithuanian I do not understand these attitudes at all tbh. When we regained our independence, there were quite a few statues we promptly destroyed. When Syrians overthrew Assad, they knocked down his statues. Why is knocking statues down or altering them purportedly in itself bad?
'Responding to the decision, Devine, 80, said: “In principle I am opposed to changing historic artefacts to suit today’s tastes. To do so is presentism, imposing 20th-century values on those of the distant past.'

'20th-century'? Bit of an own goal Sir T.
