One of the reasons I expect Reform to go worse in the UK than Trumpism is going in the US is that I think the UK has weaker civic society institutions. Our churches and universities are less rich, powerful, or inclined to resist, our media more compliant and uniform, our unions just as desiccated.

One Battle After Another reminds me a lot of French Dispatch, in that it clearly romanticises 60s counter culture revolutionaries, but because it also comments on why they failed (both settle on a lack of discpline in leadership) it drives a certain 'f*b*mb your wallmart' type up the wall

It's very easy to mock Sultana's speech for its individual points but it's also a speech devoted entirely to intra-party (both Labour and Yorps) beef lacking policy substance

I think I'd be more sympathetic to Labourites complaining about how scrapping the two child cap is being framed as internal party politicking if Starmer didn't go nuclear on MPs who supported scrapping it last year and we didn't see a very naked back and forth on it leading into the budget

The thing with Glineham is that he is the pure unrestrained id of the GC/Terf movement and these kinds of articles we now see about him are written out of a desire to escape that truth

Can't help feel that these people obviously do on one level accept that trans women are women because only women get so blatantly disbelieved about our own feelings and experiences.
I don’t know enough about the situation with Lineham to opine on whether the judgement is valid or not, but everything about this paragraph in the BBC article makes me despair at how many institutions have been captured by the GC movement

I think we are long past the point of noting the judiciary is ideologically captured by bigots and extremists
It is genuinely insane to see a judge describe Graham Linehan as a “generally credible witness” in a trial where he claimed Sophia Brooks has been engaged in “trans activism” since 2013 (when she would’ve been 6 years old), then, when challenged, claimed her drivers license lied about her age.
