I think it’s pretty clear at this point that one of the main impacts of LLMs is to disrupt thinking: to make it so that far too many people never properly learn how to do it, and then to control the output so there are thoughts that people never learn how to think.

One of the things that I've been writing and researching over the past year is how people are neurologically, psychologically and systematically primed for political cruelty, and one of the only heartening things is this - that it would disappear if it wasn't maintained by massive effort.
Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

AI … is a crisis… History shows us that the right to literacy came at a heavy cost for many Americans, ranging from ostracism to death. Those in power recognized that oppression is best maintained by keeping the masses illiterate, and those oppressed recognized that literacy is liberation.“

With this, as with all things, we're absolutely at the mercy of the emotional needs of the very worst people in our society. They don't even benefit from it in any material sense - billionaires could have even more billions if there was UBI etc., but mega-scale sadism is the ultimate luxury good.
There has literally never been a universal basic income trial program that didn't deliver real and measurable results above and beyond any other form of social welfare, and every time another concludes with the same findings the powers that be go "interesting! Anyway," and pretend it wouldn't work.

Most folks don’t appreciate (a) the degree to which science feeds the world (as well as helping to keep us healthy and safe from all sorts of harm) and (b) how -very- much facts matter in science.

Lori Trahan: The socialists must pay for this 😤🤡
Trump is filling his government with Nazis, consolidating authoritarian power, and eroding democracy at every chance.

And yet these 86 House Democrats voted for a right-wing messaging amendment to say that the real authoritarians are the socialists.

Pathetic.

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.
