Just got gassed pretty good at the labor union anti-ICE protest in Portland. Massive march, 5-10k strong. Vibes were very much liberal rather than radical. Lots of kids and older folks.
They gassed the whole crowd as soon as it marched on ICE, in broad daylight.

It’s so hard to describe what this is like to people who aren’t here. The ICE/BCP occupation seeps into everything. It’s not just the horror of the big stuff. It’s the little stuff, too: helicopters all night, vigilance during every trip out of the house, guilt at having any downtime at all.
I've personally had barely any ICE encounters. I've done patrolling when I can. And my body is just yelling at me that it's wrecked.
Even doing a little bit is fucking taxing. Everyone doing more is a superhero, and I don't think folks who haven't been involved in an occupation understand the toll.

Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt needs to stop assisting ICE. It’s very clear that the sheriff’s department has been harassing, intimidating, arresting and coming out in force to assist ICE. They have been using force against neighbors who are working to protect our immigrant neighbors. 2/

Also, the “gay parents are worse” claim just isn’t true. Research shows that children of same sex couples have the same outcomes as those of heterosexual couples, sometimes better outcomes. The key determinants are class, income, etc, not whether you have two moms, two dads, or a mum and a dad.
It's a real full-circle moment because rhetoric that was refined in anti-trans propaganda is now being turned around to argue against gay marriage.

I was there in 2023 at the house committee meeting when the initial ban was pushed through until this review was conducted.
I learned firsthand how the Republican majority of Utah's state legislature are as corrupt and/or unintelligent as can be.

A thing that I think is going to haunt me for a while is something that comes from a video by the Daily Show from this week where Jon Stewart talks about what happened in Minneapolis last weekend. He's of course outraged, utterly livid and repulsed by what the government has done.
