I shit you not, there is a haunted golf ball in that movie.

I love the 1945 one.

I also highly recommend the underseen Bob Clark one from 1974.

The Dan Curtis one from 1977 is 2/3 ok and 1/3 pretty great.

In the last three days, I’ve watched three different movies named Dead of Night.

One has a trucker-eating blood junkie.

One has a haunted golf ball.

One has Ed Bagley Jr.

Me, three days later: Where am I going to store all these things?

Me, six days later: Gee, I really like this storage solution. And there’s some room left over!

The weasels in my brain, immediately: NATURE ABHORS A VACUUM. BUY MORE OF THE THING.

Me, three days later: Well, fuck.

My wallet, 10 minutes later: What the fuck just happened?

Me: I like this thing I bought on a whim.

The weasels in my brain, five minutes later: …AND NOW I NEED TO OWN 37 VARIATIONS OF THIS THING, BECAUSE THAT WILL MAKE ME 37 TIMES HAPPIER.

Even nice and well-trained dogs will become bark machines when strangers approach their home. It’s just part of regular dog behavior: warn the pack that someone unfamiliar is around.

But yes, there are also way too many people who don’t know how to train their dogs.

And, of course, in America, we have a history of using attack dogs against non-white folks, so I already knew that some Black communities are dog-averse because of that.

But my views on dogs are DEFINITELY those of a white American, and my gut reaction of surprise is telling.

Thinking it through, I understand the history of it: stray dogs, unvaccinated dogs, and untrained dogs can absolutely be dangerous. Just like cultures who don’t eat pig or shellfish, because the meat is dangerous if not treated properly. Religious doctrine absorbed the safety warning.

I consider myself well-versed in other cultures compared to most Americans, but I literally had no idea that some Muslim faiths considered dogs unclean. Dogs were/are such useful working animals in many cultures that I’d have never guessed such a thing.

I heard tonight that Christopher Mills has passed away. I did not know him well, but I did work with him on a couple projects (most notably, Femme Noir #1). He was always a gem to work with. May his memory be a blessing, and may his comics live on and on.

I only wrote about 100 comics in my so-called career, but now that I'm dying, I'm grateful that I got to do even that. Comics are such a wonderful medium, and they've always meant so much to me.

You are spot on. I don't like gambling, and I like this even less. At least casinos usually have a nice buffet.

This is a terrible hobby and I should have nothing to do with it.

For some reason, I decided that I'd learn about the stock market on Wednesday. I put a negligible amount of money ($5) into a few stocks, then watched what happened.

What I learned:
* Line go up because capitalism
* Line go down because Trump say "tariff"
* Many hour lost b/c stare at line

I once wrote a 25 page paper on the physiology of electric stingrays (completely sourced from actual scientific papers, 5 pages of references) overnight, no coffee. Printed the paper, drove to class, handed it in, and then gave a 1 hour lecture on the same subject.

AI can go fuck a rusty tin can.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.
