Many devs give up early because they assume making games is just a matter of following tutorials until something "clicks"

Playing games and making them are two completely different experiences.

There are no fixed rules. You’ll have to find what works for you.

When getting started for the week, try to find easy wins. Fix small bugs or add little bits of polish.

I made a DCEL for #ProcGen dungeons. I'm working on the "Just make it exist" part of the meme. I'll add the "dark and scary" later. E.g. I'll fix the door gap, add room variety, and flesh it out with real art, enemies, and dimly lit torches.

aside from making the sewers, i've also tried making my first piece of ambience music. It's not great but im going to get a lot of practice.

ive also added a mining minigame, plus everything else you can see in the video!

Woke up to one of our playtesters reporting a 1-frame hitch on vertical scrolling. Started digging and ended up scrapping the code for NPC movement and sprite updates completely and starting from scratch. For one annoying frame. #gamedev is hard 😅

This is pretty cool.
My current version allows agents to query hundreds of potential destinations because they're just looking at precomputed data. Basically just a voxel grid with info about each area baked from the editor.

I'm hoping to maintain this general system, as it's already proven pretty useful...

Do folks have suggestions for heuristics for NavMesh distances? Need a way to know which destinations are "close" without actually running the calculation...

Just using eucliean distance keeps having them choose points on the other side of walls...
