it’s so disgusting that they constantly frame the needs of adoptees as an attack on queer people. adoption isn’t a fucking family planning tool. it is supposed to be for the safety of children in crisis. every day, supposed progressives reveal they see us as products just like right wingers.
The chair said she’s queer in a same-sex relationship. She wants to adopt some day and can’t recommend the bill because she believes there are relinquishing parents who won’t want to be known to their children.

Also I need everyone to understand how dangerous this is-particularly in the present moment where this admin is targeting Black & Brown folks. Without access to our original birth certificates, we are in danger of being detained or deported by ICE/DHS/CBP, regardless of where we were born.

My original birth certificate is locked away in some dingy file cabinet somewhere, and I will never be able to see it unless elected officials in my state change the laws.

i need everyone to understand that birthparents CANNOT unseal their children’s birth records. At most they can elect not to veto their child’s access—in states with such a veto in place.
In California, only a court order can unseal an adoptee’s birth record. And that is basically never granted. 🥚
