The current person in charge of ICE's procurement for detention is a GEO Group executive who ran the company's immigration detention portfolio. He was granted an "ethics waiver" from DHS allowing him to hand out contracts to GEO in his new role.

If there is anything I try to practice, model & teach my students, it's to read generously. We don't have to rush to the critique. That is not to say ignore the places it can be improved-Sarah Lawrence Lightfoot asks, "What is good here?" and I think that should be our leading question

agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with
The secret to engaging in social media debate is knowing you will never win anyone over. The best you can hope for is to have people who already agree with tell you you're awesome. You might great a dopamine thrill from the righteousness of your anger! Fine benefits, all. But you will never win.

The conservative centers have same issue. Students aren’t particularly interested in them. They wind up having money/power and no legitimacy. That would be a problem if they were trying to institutionalize their ideology, but they aren’t. They’re trying to pick the institution’s bones
