agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with

The conservative centers have same issue. Students aren’t particularly interested in them. They wind up having money/power and no legitimacy. That would be a problem if they were trying to institutionalize their ideology, but they aren’t. They’re trying to pick the institution’s bones

Yep. The market problem writ large is exceptionally true in highered. But it won’t matter — and doesn’t matter — to those in charge right now because the point is to strip the institution.
Faculty have a role to play, but I'm convinced the most recent drive to automate education will fail, just as it has in every decade since the 1950s, because tuition-paying students hate it.
That said, each new iteration of this drive chips away at budgets, at public trust, at institutions, etc.

Does anyone know why anonymous users are showing up on a google doc only shared between 2 people who are logged in (therefore aren't anonymous)? It is set to anyone with link can edit but we should be the only 2 with the link. Is google docs using for training LLMs?
