After spending nearly 18 months deliberately aping Nigel Farage and legitimising Reform’s politics, Keir Starmer and Morgan McSweeney are sending out their Torgos to lecture the public about how the real Farage clone is the one person in politics who meaningfully opposes him. Let’s see how it works.
Farage and Polanski have something in common. They are both wrong about Britain.

I feel like that makes it worse, bc it underscores that it's not just (using just loosely) RFK Jr randomly being a conspiracy addled eugenicist wackjob -- this catastrophe was coordinated and had the backing of the conservative legal movement
It is utterly catastrophic that RFK Jr. plans to end CDC recommendations for most childhood vaccines.

It’s a betrayal of science, ethics, compassion, and the people of the United States.

And it was also a specific goal of Project 2025 (page 254).

You know what's wild? They have NEVER asked any of these people--'what rights do you think women have?' Or 'are women equal to men?' Or 'are white people superior intellectually or morally?' Or 'how can you be in office if you think people who are not Christian do not count as much as others?'

I’m so very tired of “Trump doesn’t care about that!” posts. Thank you, yes, this is not news. His lack of caring is well-documented. It’s not actually necessary to breathlessly inform people of this anymore.
NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader.

So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

Little shocking how hard a time some people have grasping this.
I really do not care if the guy who has raped kids is from my political party. My moral philosophy is that you don't rape kids, and there is nothing you can do that earns you a get-out-of-raping-kids-free card.

People learning how to read longer forms of the written word, and being encouraged to continue doing so, was one of the singular accomplishments of human culture, and it is singularly bad that deep reading has disappeared from popular culture.

If we could just take a fucking breath and admit "our kids are people, we don't get to decide who they are," and stop using "BUT THE CHILDREN" as a reason to attack trans people, and autistic people, and whoever else we've decided not to like, that would be cool.

We often associate anti-vaxx, "crunchy" views with "Hollywood liberals" in SoCal, and all that.

But I really do think far more people in east coast news media are sympathetic to the anti-vaxx, alt-health stuff than we realized.

Hates trans people, hates bi people (really, "hates everyone but the 'G' in LGBTQ+"), hates non-whites, women, fat people, look I'm basically like JD Vance do I get 1 acceptance now???

I keep saying: This country/dominant culture hates children. Absolutely hates them. Regards them as property far more than (vulnerable, in need of guidance and conscientious, respectful protection) full human beings
I know this is something I circle back to a lot, but it honestly feels, to me, like half the attacks on our trans siblings roots back to "children aren't people." The doctor said "boy," so I get to be the parent of a boy child! Not a girl child! How dare my child want things I don't want?!

Yes, that's the point.
They think that if children can't survive without vaccines they shouldn't.
They've been very vocal about it.
That's what Congress is supporting every day that they let this continue.
“They’re going to bring back suffering and death,” said Dr. Sean O’Leary, chair of the infectious disease committee for the American Academy of Pediatrics. “I don’t say that with any hyperbole, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.”

As with public schools, the nice thing about standardized vaccines is they take some of the burden off overtaxed and underfunded parents. Making every aspect of childhood a bespoke experience that the mother has to figure out on her own isn't "choice." It's piling on duties that some can't handle.

"Everyone knows that..."
Because it was published in the 1800s in a nicely bound volume that was bought and paid for by the guy who came up with it with his friends on a weekend absinthe bender at his hunting lodge.

Please enjoy the same thrill I got when I tracked down the source of an oft-cited, factually wrong bit of drug war propaganda, that oxycodone is some huge multiple stronger than morphine. (It’s 1.5 times stronger.)

The source: An editor at Christian Science Monitor pulled it out of his ass.

If they're going to award Nebulas for partial LLM-created works then I want a piece of those Nebulas since my work was stolen to create them.
I'm so disappointed in @sfwa.org for this. I understand that by requiring disclosure of partial LLM-created works, as their announcement states, means SFWA's letting "nominators and the voters" make the final decision. BUT YOU'RE STILL ALLOWING SUCH WORKS ON THE NEBULA AWARDS FINAL BALLOT! 1/

One major problem, bluntly, is that lots of folks can't distinguish between good writing and poor writing. This is about education, not intelligence: they could learn the difference, but it's frequently not taught, even in "good" schools. This is ultimately a competitive disadvantage for them.
it's so wild that people conflate quickness with quality so they think chatGPT writing a wall of text in 10 seconds means it's good writing.
