Wrecking young people's reading, writing & analytical skills during their formative years is an economic imperative for AI companies. For many of us who learned these things without AI, slop can't pass for news or entertainment. Destroying standards is essential to the industry's growth & survival.

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

this is literally the foundation of my politics. hunger and homelessness are completely absurd problems to have in the wealthiest civilization in the history of the known universe
with how cheaply we can ensure people are fed & housed is compared to how much waste is generated by retail therapy

technically, if you would otherwise be using electric resistive heating, using any compute hardware *that you already have* to mine cryptocurrencies is no worse than that. But buying a bunch of specialized equipment to do so is definitely dumb as hell

LRP: it wasn't until talking more frequently to a mutual (now good friend!) from the USA that I learned how actually awful it is to live there. they were showing me different predatory health care plans and shit and I was genuinely almost crying, the fact they had to do that at all made me feel sick
