PG&E’s failure to deliver reliable electricity to San Francisco on a clear day has once more cut off access to the Internet Archive and the Wayback Machine to the world.
Yes, the archive is down again.

Yes, it's a power outage from PG&E.

Yes, there's been something like 4-5 in the last few weeks.

PG&E has a monopoly. We are waiting for the power to return.

There was a decade there where we really took the power away from the rich and powerful, only for the worst of us to become the rich and powerful and refuse let go.

I wonder if this is what it was like for the hippie boomers, too.

At this rate, more people will watch the spiked 60 Minutes story today than have watched an episode of 60 minutes in the last year. Streisand abides.

It used to be that the United States would use Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty to transmit truth across the borders of repressive regimes.

Now the work of American reporters, having been censored, is being smuggled across the border to reach Americans.
The 60 Minutes piece on the Trump Administration’s torture prison that Bari Weiss doesn’t want you to see has leaked.

Would like to hear @dieworkwear.bsky.social 's diatribe on special occasion suits such as this one. This example on its surface appears to be better fitting than most NFL postgame suits, at least.

i am old enough to remember when tech companies, even larger ones with unsavory business practices, had at least a few core values they seemed to stick to even when it wasn't about their profit motives

ie opposing gov surveillance & defending net neutrality

those days are gone. anything for a buck

For generations people “cut off” parents by moving away and mailing them a card once a year. Travel and long distance phone calls were expensive; distance effectively cut people off w/o being so explicit.

The difference now is that communication is cheap so cutting them off requires being explicit.
There's no hard data, so it's impossible to know for sure, but I suspect the number of adult children cutting off their parents isn't significantly higher than it used to be, and what's actually new is that the children are now explaining it in therapy terms rather than simply ceasing contact.

Every few years there's a bunch of "pivot to video" discourse about how creatives should all start making videos instead of doing text-based work. And every few years we discover again that the supposed "popularity" of video is based on fake audience numbers created by the video platforms.

The fact that it’s Republicans that did it is so astounding to anyone who lived through the National ID debates of the 00s. Conservatives were SO against the gov having too much data on any one person in one location it kept us in the analog age for decades longer than other developed countries

If I was serious about popularizing the similarity between the sculpture and the cover of the book, I’d maybe post an image that visually juxtaposes the two:

If Treasury returns are up that means the government is paying *more* to people who lend it money

This is a *BAD* thing

For the government, it makes everything more expensive

For investors, it means they don't have confidence that US debt is a good investment

While I completely agree with @zacbrownband.bsky.social about the presence of a loogie on a doobie, I do have one big objection.

There ain't no way that saliva rhymes with sativa. Not even in Georgia.

1989 Yugo GV for sale, in remarkably good shape given that it's a 1989 Yugo.

It only has 3600 miles (some of which were probably put on there while it was being towed or pushed).

Remember 6 weeks ago when Admiral Alvin Holsey, head of the U.S. military’s southern command, abruptly decided to retire?
Makes me think at least one top-ranking officer knows what a war crime is.

My favorite kind of sign. One of them says "Caution: don't go here", the other says "here's how you go here".

Needless to say, I followed the sign.
