I grew up effortlessly memorizing numbers left and right, and now I need to pause and think when filling out an emergency contact form with my husband's number, which has not changed in the 18 years we've been together.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

In my freshman Spanish class in high school, I was learning Buena Vista Social Club songs and sitting next to this cute boy. Now, nearly 25 years later, we're married, and yesterday we got to see Buena Vista Social Club on Broadway.
