Chris Person takes a look at Horses, "the indie game that is too scandalous for either Valve or Epic, is only beyond the pale if you're not familiar with any other art form" (quoted from the article blurb).

I have a new VGen service for the holiday season!

If I've made an original song for you in the past, whether you've formally commissioned me or not, you have the option to get a calm winter-themed remix of it.

Pricing is static regardless of song length.

in starting HORSES and playing what I am guessing is the infamous changed scene: anyone on the side of Steam et al are are fucking dullards more welcome 40 years ago in the satanic panic crowd than they are anywhere here. even if it hadn't gotten changed.

The whole Horses v Steam nonsense continues to bring up the point that a game can get away with chainsawing someone's head off in first person and punting it into an alien anus before saying cunt fifty times, but if an art game has a sex in it or a blood in it BANNED BANNED FOR A BILLION YEARS!

gotta say, even something like horses sounds pretty tame compared to, you know, the events implied in the epstein emails

can't imagine why art that encourages people to process monstrosity would get suppressed in the current world climate

Shout-out to RPS for (correctly) pointing out how the character in question that was aged up in Horses, at least as shown in the final product, was very clearly about indoctrination and not even remotely sexualized in context.

So many bad faith reactions.

The ban on the game Horses mostly seems to boil down to American-centric values of purism being enforced upon European art.

Americans inherently see nudity as sexual regardless of context and they refuse to budge from their own sheltered perspective

Don't listen to a willfully obtuse guy who hasn't played the game, listen to someone who has - Horses is fucked up, but it is absolutely art worth existing and talking about. If we are to treat games as art we need to get over our hangups and be adults.
Miserable experience. An immaculate piece of art that will haunt my nightmares for years to come.

The Horses debacle reminds me that gaming institutions and storefronts can't seem to get it through their thick fucking skulls that games are an art form. and as an art form, they should be allowed to show horrific stuff if that's their vision

Nearly every other medium handles this just fine

I'm honestly so glad that horses exists. Maybe this is me being a lil' edgelord but I'm glad that media that feels dangerous to platforms can get made and get attention like this.

We seriously cannot be allowing companies to monopolise the industry, and then arbitrarily appoint themselves the moral arbiters.

A lot of nonsense over the years regarding video game censorship - but, here it is, actual full-blown censorship of art.
Yesterday, the Epic Games Store decided at the last minute not to distribute the game, after having previously approved a release build. HORSES is otherwise now available on GOG, Itch, and Humble for $4.99. www.horses.wtf
