Bluesky adopting a "we will ban anyone who is mean to pedophiles" moderation posture is confusing until you remember it was started by a bunch of tech libertarians as a haven for Ai cultists and crypto guys.

lately i've been thinking about how LLMs must feel really amazing to use if you're a dumbass, but incredibly frustrating if you're just basically competent in life.
Is AI making job recruitment less meritocratic? We're getting some v interesting research studies on this question now, and the news is... not good. @jburnmurdoch.ft.com & I dive in, in the latest edition of our newsletter The AI Shift www.ft.com/content/e5b7...

they gleefully announce the llm solves a difficult problem and then you find out...they use it to respond to an email, format some python, arrange two meetings in an 8 hour period.

we are going to let these people burn the planet because we are too nice to tell them they sound stupid.

It's kinda like if you were born intuitively feeling like the A button should be on the right, X should be up, B down, etc. but life hands you an Xbox controller and everyone gets super weird the moment you ask about button remapping.

We have to keep shoveling all money, labor, water, and the environment into this mulcher so it will one day attain sentience and solve climate change, the first of which is impossible and the latter is a problem we have known the cause of and solution to for over a hundred years
is it better for countries to invest in boring things like transport and energy infrastructure or should they invest all their money in useless chatbots that talk in reddit-voice on the vague and completely unsubstantiated hope that they'll be able to do something profitable one day

I've watched the FIA make lots of mistakes over the last 6 ish years (some of them serious) and they almost never admit a mistake was made.

Like, people are going to make mistakes. Own it and improve. I feel like I'm going insane.

I got this ad on Reddit for AI slop that starts funny purely because the bandage doesn't cover his ear and a human needed to look through their promo images and pick one, but I digress.

The hook here is *actual physical objects*!

I really like how YouTube's new AI summary feature is so clearly kneecapped by its own content restrictions to the point that it can't actually do its one ostensible job, which is to describe what is happening in the video

I just can't get over how good the animation of The Spot in Spider-Men: Across the Spider-Verse is. It's just so well drawn. Particularly love the glitches.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a hand hobby, something that you love to do that you find fun and fulfilling that also requires use of your hands and attention so that you can’t multitask by doomscrolling at the same time
it genuinely is important to still have hobbies during a fascist takeover

don't let nazis take your humanity from you
