Outside a Minneapolis hotel is a lone agent, swaying, baffled, with a bloody nose he may have given himself, fumbling with the pin of a smoke grenade, demanding to see the MPD (which weren't there), and trying to hold his gun between his knees.

Can't make this shit up.

And what is happening inside ICE detention centers? 404 Media also learned that the federal government claimed that the day after it was sued for allegedly abusing detainees at an ICE detention center, a “system crash” deleted nearly two weeks of surveillance footage from inside the facility.
ICE Says Critical Evidence In Abuse Case Was Lost In 'System Crash' a Day After It Was Sued
The government also said "we don't have resources" to retain all footage and that plaintiffs could supply "endless hard drives that we could save things to."

While this is for new organizers from @prisonculture.bsky.social it’s an excellent reminder to veteran organizers. In these times (see why I did there?) we must all be grounded in the hope of what’s possible so we can continue to work for it and build it.
"We have to help people understand what is (the current, shared reality), we must collectively imagine what can be (a future possibility), & we have to diligently labor for what must be (organizing to sustain life/livingness & for liberation)."

@prisonculture.bsky.social on how to move forward.

it’s so wild when you read Black theorists all throughout the 1900s literally predicting all of this… you cannot maintain a white supremacist, patriarchal state without those same genocidal logics being visited on its own people… it’s only a matter of time.

again, this.
and the biggest, most obvious conclusion here is that this behavior will not change unless we completely abolish these structures entirely. there is no other way to attain freedom.
I've been studying the history of US, and indeed, global policing my whole career and I can't make it more clear to law makers that this isn't a bastardization of policing, it is its purest form and logical conclusion. The impunity, militarization, deference, legitimacy, racial targeting, etc.

In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.

He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.

At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk.

Wael died on Friday at age 30.

ICE caused his death.

They didn’t get to say goodbye.
Disabled son of ICE detainee dies after 30 days of hospitalization
It had been months since Wael Tarabishi seen his father. The family is calling on ICE to release Maher Tarabishi so he may attend his son's funeral.

the scariest part of being in texas right now is knowing that abbott will do anything to earn favor with trump, but even worse he’s repeatedly demonstrated over the years that he has absolutely no moral compass of his own, either.

Reporters, if you wrote about learning loss due to covid school closures, you can write about learning loss due to state terror.
I am not being snarky. I need my colleagues who wrote on covid school lockdowns to engage with this. To be as loud as they have been about prior "learning loss." Hell, you can cite Tom & Mark's AERJ paper so you feel better that there's some econ somewhere in your argument.

The 5-year-old arrested by ICE In Minnesota is detained at Dilley. We reported on conditions there in the below article.

Parents said the food was contaminated with mold and worms & that children were so under so much stress that they were hitting their own faces & wetting themselves.
Analysis by The Marshall Project of ICE data obtained by the Deportation Data Project found that the Trump administration’s revival of family detention has swept thousands of children into ICE custody. At least 3,800 children under 18, including 20 infants, have been booked since Trump took office.
ICE Threw Thousands of Kids in Detention, Many For Longer Than Court-Prescribed Limit
Former immigration staffers argue ICE is choosing to detain families for prolonged periods to speed deportations and compel them to leave.
