The toppling of Colston

Jake Skuse, Rhian Graham, Milo Ponsford, and Sage Willoughby were found innocent by their Bristolian peers in the jury after the local Labour MP and Labour council did nothing for years and years and years, decades really.

A public service broadcaster unafraid of speaking truth to power is one of the cornerstones of democracy.
We are losing ours.
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

I can’t tell you how truly devastating this is for nature in our country, on land and in our waterways

There isn’t a word to describe how disgusted I am.

Four years and the only thing which has changed is that anti-asylum policies and rhetoric have got worse.
Four years and genuine solutions to reducing channel crossings, reducing the loss of life, haven't changed, and have continued to be ignored 👇

Four years of hostility.
Today is the 4th anniversary of the worst ever tragedy in the Channel.

At least 27 men, women & children drowned in the freezing water, & 4 more have never been found.

Since then, neither we nor the French have done a thing to offer people in this situation with real solutions.

Best for Britain insistance on getting everyone to vote Labour at the GE was not patriotic to 🇬🇧

Supporting Labour policies of:
No FoM
No single market
No customs union

has:

Increased food inflation
Trashed SMEs
Made the defence of europe and Ukraine more difficult
In light of today’s food inflation figures, it’s clear we need a war on inflation, not a war on immigration. And a weapon in our arsenal must be expediting that agri food deal with the EU.

The north-atlantic gap where Russian subs can sail right through was the job of the 🇬🇧 to police

Then the UK turned inwards and now refuses to work with others.

🇩🇪 has stepped up and taken over the role from 🇬🇧

🇬🇧 ingorance and racism is harming 🇬🇧 and 🇪🇺 security.

Up to 2019 this was a Tory stronghold.
In 2024 they tried Labour and now they are Green.

The Greens could win the next UK GE
Up to a while ago, the Greens winning a GE would have been crazy but now...well, it is very possible.

It October the Greens were on 12.7% here

I know people are aiming ableist slurs at people who mention Brexit, but the £40 billion tax yield lost because of Brexit is remarkably close to the £40 billion black hole in UK finances we've been hearing about, and the least well-off are probably going to pay for it come the fascist budget.
John Major, "Our links to Europe and America may be loser now than once they were and that is a loss"

"The loss of trade with Europe alone costs us £100 billion of lost trade every year"

"That's a tax yield of £40 billion"

"How useful would that have been in recent months to the Chancellor?"

I’ve had the same thoughts..

The idea of a UK government stealing Jewellery from asylum seekers makes me deeply angry.
Shabana Mahmood casually saying they're gonna take migrant's jewellery off them has got me thinking about that scene in Schindler's List where the Jewish family wrap family heirlooms in bread and swallow them.

What the fuck are we?

A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.

Great thread on a possible direction of travel for UK relations with the EU that hinges on five key areas:

1. Labour replace PM
2. Move quicker
3. Prepare public for EU co-operation
4. Take fight to Brexiters
5. Go big with offers

I feel:
Labour will struggle with 1
2 - 5 requires Greens / LibDems
