going thru traditional rent assistance resources (not for me, i'm fine) and so many net such a small amount of money versus the amount of effort the applicant is expected to expend. man, you can really feel the end of the month rapidly careening into people's bank accounts.

Includes my prison break short story about Io, radiation, and (improbably) governesses— “What a Name Does Is Let You Leave.” INCREDIBLY strange time for this story to drop for me personally (I live in Minneapolis), but it’s one of my favorites.
The first issue is supposed to launch February 1, but I don't understand how time works, so it's available now. Is it February 1 somewhere?

Warning: the issue will not exist yesterday.

To be clear, the demand is not that Bovino and company simply leave Minnesota to terrorize people elsewhere. We want ICE destroyed, its collaborators prosecuted and removed from any position of societal power and interaction, and detainees released and given justice.

Reminder:
- Nothing being reported on ICE withdrawing
- By govt’s own admission, 2,000 ICE invaders here, a still-astounding number
- Unclear how many CPB agents will be removed
- Tom Homan, the new Bovino, was the force behind ICE’s family separation policy, a bribe-taker, and a monster

LRT articulates something I was discussing w a close friend the other day—the trouble of only looking for optimistic fiction in this day & age—bc it seems when ppl say “optimistic fiction” they mean stories where nothing is terrible to start and mostly fine at the end, read as antidote to despair.

I think a lot of us get hope wrong. Hope, I do not believe, is an emotion. In fact, hope makes space for lots of emotions to exist alongside it. You can DO hope scared, angry, sad etc...

Hope doesn't find us. We make hope through action and struggle. It's a practice of living and is re-made daily.

just gonna throw out a quick reminder that in America police kill a yearly average of 3 civilians per day, routinely in situations very similar to these ICE killings, and decades of explicit support for police impunity by US politicians is why ICE feels theyre able to get away with this right now
Our government is murdering the citizens of this country. They are doing it without any checks on their violence

The main takeaway for me here is that they cannot imagine doing labor for others without remuneration. They cannot conceive of giving of themselves to their community. And that really says everything about their ideology.
The fact that every right winger with influence screams "who is paying for all of this" tells you exactly how awash in cash they all are, and how much they rely on that to keep their movement afloat.
James O'Keefe says he's never seen anything so organized as the anti-ICE movement, observers--he seems to think this term is code--everywhere he goes. Who is paying for it??? he demands to know. It's like he can't even imagine people caring for one another.

As we in Minneapolis struggle with this unlawful, invading force… I ask all of you consider the parallels to your local law enforcement and the Black community often describes their interactions.
I am not exaggerating when I say ICE functions as a terrorist organization in the Twin Cities. The goal seems to be to harass and frighten people (the ones who are lucky enough to not be abducted, at least) and it's deeply unsettling when you learn they're in your neighborhood.

Don't repeat the lie that any of this is happening during "targeted" immigration enforcement. Agents are roaming the city, looking for suspicious skin colors or the hint of an accent.

Once again, observers are not protesting. This wasn’t during a protest. He was murdered while being in his community and observing the out of control federal occupation of our city.

People already working hard to prove how perfect Alex Pretti was. To show he didn't "deserve" to be killed. But it's a trap folks. You're only feeding into a dynamic where people who are considered lesser get no protection. You don't have to be an Alex Pretti to deserve to live.

again. let this all radicalize you against more than just ICE, because cops have been doing this to people forever. killing innocent people in cold blood and saying they feared for their lives and getting away with it. when ICE leave, we still have them
OMG they are actually calling these “defensive shots.”

Not to stomp on the moment of our great triumph or w/e but I can't stop thinking about Winston Smith and Deona Marie Knajdek. I think about June 2021 every time I walk down that street, right past where they both died, one shot by cops and the other rammed by a car while protesting.

It's going to be deathly cold out and it seems ICE is still releasing people at random from Whipple, without phones or proper attire. There's a team on the ground that provides cars for warming/transport, phones, food, etc.

In case anyone needs this humanized more for some fucking reason, this picture was taken right in front of my old apt, where I lived in the basement. During fires it got smoky in there; cannot imagine what it’s like for residents right now. I took engagement photos w my wife about 20 ft away.

Good to see approval so high but also I want to say for the hundredth time that what gets covered in the media as "protests" in the Twin Cities is very often "people going about their day and then running to help when they see federal agents trying to kidnap their neighbors"

Our community is in peril. Our neighbors need our help in this time of ICE presence and subzero temperatures.

Mpls has a shortage of available shelter for residents, and our city govt has not developed adequate resources to humanely house people.

Please support MIWRC in this time of emergency.
