Cleaning up Frey’s mess should not be such a large part of City Hall’s work. I’m confident council will once again pass an equitable budget and work together to fund both programs. Choosing between struggling families in MPS and unsheltered neighbors is a false choice.

This could have been an opportunity to work with our governent partners in good faith to address a shared priority. Instead, Frey fell back to governing via press conference, which helps hide his continued failures of managing our city resources through PR spins on half truths.

The mayor could have fully funded both anti-homelessness initiatives, but he chose to pit two vulnerable communities against each other. Frey incorrectly believe the public does not care about our unhoused neighbors. This disconnect is a result of only engaging with his rich donor base.
Texting him this probably didn’t help either
To be fair, he blocked me much earlier because I posted details about our conversation re: police reform

I remember in 2021 during the rent control ballot measure in St. Paul we had all these apartments with anti-rent control yardsigns the landlords put up and then the windows of the building would be filled with pro-rent control signs. Pretty epic showdown.

This is why I would trade Frey for a different moderate (like Jazz) in a heartbeat.
At the Ward 8 for a New Mayor rally last Saturday, Commissioner Angela Conley said the county's been trying to work with the mayor on homelessness for seven years and he's shut them out.
frey is talking about working with county partners extensively…

What so many of you jamokes call “purity tests” I call being aligned with your ethics and in solidarity with others. If you don’t have a line you hold WTF is your point?

Remember, we're supposed to trust a mayor, who can't hold himself to data practices lessons they teach you about being a public official on your first day at city hall, to hold himself and his police department to the federal consent decree. No court supervision required.

If you're not a local politics watcher, you have to remember to read headlines involving the city attorney's office as: "Mayor does X. People who work for mayor say, actually everything is fine."
Political group accuses Frey of improperly deleting texts. Some advocates and media lawyers agree.
The Minneapolis city attorney’s office says Mayor Jacob Frey is in compliance with the state transparency laws. In executive order, Mayor Frey directs Minneapolis to implement police reforms canceled by Trump DOJ
City Council members are pursuing a separate plan to fold the federal agreement into a state settlement; the city attorney says they don’t have the power.

Mayor Frey is an enigma. On one hand, the most honorable mayor in America. Loves his city more than his ideology. But also thinks we're all dumb enough to believe his phone routinely gets so full of texts he must delete conversations with his police chief.

Mayor Frey says all the work he does is “transitory.”
As in temporary or fleeting. Nothing better describes his leadership style. Managing by press conference and never being accountable for his past actions and words.

Maybe that’s why his language “evolves.” It’s all transitory.

the extent to which media elites treat liberal americans as if they do not count in the body politic is a real problem
I read the piece. You shouldn't. He dismisses the "No Kings" protests as liberals in blue cities. He invokes Rosa Parks, as if rural white people in the 60s loved everything that the movement then was doing. "We need a movement but not this one" is a core centrist tact these days.
We appreciate your work
Never underestimate how much Jacob Frey loves performing to a Black audience

“The contortions they appear to be prepared to go through to circumvent the spirit of the (law’s) presumption of openness are astounding,” Jane Kirtley, professor of law and media ethics at the University of Minnesota, said.

The concept of rich men using a technology that’s ruining the planet to exploit the dead so they can avoid paying the living is so viscerally vile it made me shudder.
