We’re seeing a lot of pop-up protests against ICE in the Chicago area, such as this one outside a Home Depot in Evanston, IL, where 2 of our neighbors were taken yesterday.

if an author commits the same crime as a character in their book it cancels out

there are only two fiction genres: historical and fantasy

these literary opinions are too hinged. the prompt asked for unhinged opinions. here’s one: every book should be required to have an even number of words in it

sometimes someone takes such a bad swing you can’t even be mad you just feel sorry for them

The extreme left’s weird soft treatment of Nick Fuentes is a reminder that if you go far enough in either direction, you loop back around

everybody is saying we should get rid of halloween and celebrate frankenstein friday instead. idk much about that though it’s just something i’ve been hearing a lot while i’m out and about

The plan to send in unaccountable agents to kidnap your neighbors *might* have overplayed its hand when they've lost the people on the "I Saw A Person I Didn't Recognize In My Neighborhood And I Want The Cops To Come Take Them Away" social media app.

It’s happening on Nextdoor too

soooo my Chicagoans, has anyone else's neighborhood facebook group gone from desperately apolitical (regarding federal politics) to at least 40% about ICE/DHS activity and organizing against it? like it's hard to overstate this shift

Turns out most people don't really like being invaded

agreee but a lot of libraries won’t buy paperback because they don’t hold up as long. in my perfect world they would release simultaneously

During my town hall events, I get to hear from a lot of Iowans, on a lot of topics. Being able to spend time writing on Substack allows me to keep running notes of the issues that matter to you & helps me know what you want me to focus on, if elected. substack.com/inbox/post/1...

i don’t think trump believes in heaven or hell, i think he grapples with death like most rich people: pretends money will protect him from it until he’s face-to-face with it and panics, then goes back to denial

its so cool that stuff that would have been called obviously bigoted in like 2010 is just basically the standard behavior of any "political dynasty family/old money/deeply entrenched" elected dems in 2025. today theyd give al franken the presidential medal of freedom or whatever

One thing I want you to take from videos like this is the absolute cacophony of whistles and screams of "GET THE FUCK OUT OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD" from people in the streets and in buildings. And more and more people are at that point every day.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.
"
Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

Maybe MPLS knows this by now but it’s very easy to say you’ve banned no knock warrants and impossible to actually ban them without reducing police power. Frey has never been willing to consider anything but increasing that power, regardless of whether he genuinely thought he could ban that tactic.

ICE in Chicago detained two people (that we know of) for filming them today, a cyclist and a neighborhood rapid responder. This in addition to tear gassing another neighborhood and brandishing weapons at rapid response—both things that have also already been going on for weeks.

I am working in a restaurant and everyone is scared. We've lost 4 or 5 to ICE. People are afraid to come to work during daylight hours, so they get to work 5 or 6 hours early and sleep in the dry storage until their shift starts. People are sleeping here at night.
