Let me rewrite that for you: Rachel Reeves will keep fuel duty the same out of cowardice.
Since 2011 the fuel duty freeze has cost the Treasury £133 billion.

This huge amount could have paid for lower train and bus fares, better stations, safer walking, wheeling and cycling and much more!

Rachel Reeves will freeze fuel duty to dodge ‘political suicide’
The chancellor will also highlight a rise in the minimum wage and plans to cut energy bills as she tries to win over voters by focusing on cost of living

There's always money to subsidise driving more.
When can you declare an emergency over?

The 5p “emergency” petrol tax cut was introduced in March 2022, to offset a spike in prices

They are now about 30p down on that month, & about 50p down on the absolute peak

Aideen’s story has sparked an overwhelming response, showing the real impact that pavement parking has on people’s daily lives across the UK.

This is why we are campaigning to end pavement parking.

The evidence in favour of 20 mph speed limits is overwhelming, cheaper insurance, less emissions, less car crashes, it saves the NHS, Police and councils money. But Gary from Port Talbot's commute now takes 42 minutes instead of 40 so it simply must go.

Eleanor Powell was the only dancer to intimidate Fred Astaire. Thrill to her tapping – and drumming – with Buddy Rich (and the Tommy Dorsey orchestra) in Ship Ahoy. The ease, energy, wit, antics, acrobatics, athleticism: there was no-one like her.

Scrivener being good, as ever. Apple forces a GenAI prompt icon into their software on Mac, so they've put out a guide how to switch it off across the OS rather than risk people thinking they dabbled in GenAI in any way
Unlike most apps these days, Scrivener does not use AI in any way. However, if you’re on a Mac, you may see an AI prompt.

While people are splitting hairs over what a suitable commuting bike is (usually on the assumption that everyone's abilities, luggage & routes are broadly the same as their own), the salary sacrifice car scheme has no requirement for you to use it to commute or even that the lessee use it at all.

I've spent a lot of my political career listening to Labour activists call me, as a Lib Dem, a 'yellow Tory'.

Yet here is a Labour Government announcing a bunch of policies that are simply cruel, apparently due to political panic.

Any decent Labour members left need to stop this.
Today, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood prepares to announce the latest attack on refugee rights in the UK.

A host of hostile policy changes have already been announced. We don’t yet have the full details, but we’ll keep you updated as more becomes clear.

⬇️Here’s what we know + think so far:

abolish religious schooling
Catholic schools are used as legal conversion therapy because you have to wear a gendered uniform cut your hair a certain way etc etc and you are expelled if you don’t. Do you understand this. do you understand how many kids at each school are there for that reason
I don’t actually think you people comprehend the kind of suffering on even a school level scale the queer people and children at these institutions have to go through like you’re actually brain dead stupid

Asked about Tommy Robinson supporting her asylum plans Shabana Mahmood replies that "Tommy Robinson doesn't even think I'm actually English, so he will certainly not be supporting anything I've got to say."

But he is supporting what she's got to say. That was the point of the question

Cool so we pay some AI company a ton of ££ to make a machine that we all know is inherently biased towards understanding white people's features, so we don't run the risk of accidentally helping a desperate young person who just isn't young enough for us to pretend to care. WE MUST DO BETTER.
Home secretary says asylum reforms will 'unite a divided country' as full plans published
Shabana Mahmood also threatens three African countries with visa bans ahead of her address to Parliament this afternoon.

The thing I despise is inhumanity. It’s not really a political position, it’s an existential one. But if your political party manoeuvres itself into a place where it practises and promotes inhumanity, I will despise you.

A couple of years back I had an air source heat pump installed. This wasn't a financial decision: I doubt it changes my fuel bill dramatically. It was to reduce my carbon footprint. Without the £7500 grant from the government it would not have happened.

A CityZone Extra group ticket for up to 5 people costs £17 for a day. The county council would prefer you to drive from Abingdon to Oxford, I assume.
£2.50 Vs £16 ish for a car full

And you've no idea what transport choices I made as an individual earlier in the week!

When the success or failure of the most radical and progressive change ever made hinges on a sceptical audience who works otherwise drive all the way... damn right I'll promote

Abingdon councillor celebrates driving from Abingdon to Oxford instead of taking one of the most frequent bus services in the county.
🥳 Today I’m celebrating the milestone of 3000 (!) followers (on another platform!) 🎈

Celebrating than with the 300(0) Park and Ride Bus from Redbridge, where the bus is FREE and it’s £2.50 for all day parking for our family!

(And now only 7 minutes to reach the city centre, which is heaving 🚌)

This bus is only free if you drove there. It's not free for people taking public transport for their whole journey, and it's not free if you cycled to the park and ride.
