🚨Let's treat childcare like infrastructure.

In a new report written with the brilliant Mandu Reid, I am calling for Universal Free Childcare to be moved forward as serious policy.

This is a big vision and I hope others will come to share it.

Thank you hugely @chloeg.bsky.social for taking my place today at the final rally for Reclaim the Night in Brighton:
"Misogyny is not just degrading to all marginalised genders. It is world shattering and it can be deadly. We need bold action to make misogyny a hate crime, and real government action."

@chloeg.bsky.social speaks on behalf of @sianberry.bsky.social at Reclaim the Night Brighton tonight.

We need to scrap SATs!

Primary assessments are making kids sick with worry, stressing out parents and causing active harm, particularly to SEND pupils.

Govt must listen and rethink these counterproductive tests.

This morning Green MPs attended a critical briefing on the climate and nature crisis.

Climate breakdown threatens our food supply, health and national security but an alternative future is still possible.

"Ordinary people are going to see their income tax bills increase"

@adrianramsay.bsky.social explains how Labour's budget fails to address unprecedented cost of living pressures- and how a wealth tax would raise revenues to fund our infrastructure and public services.

I share every sentiment of this from our woefully ignored Grassroots Music Venues.
This Budget is yet another episode in the long running saga of failures to seize opportunities to support Grassroots Music Venues. The Government’s rhetoric on their support for this vital sector is completely undone by the reality of their business rates decision.

MISSING: Closing tax loopholes for private jets, taxing airplane fuel, a frequent flyer levy.

Why does the Chancellor have such a blind spot for anything that might tackle the excesses of the aviation industry? #Budget

The two-child benefit cap is finally in the bin.

Govt was made to do the right thing by Greens and campaigners, but too many families have been harmed by Labour foot-dragging.

The unjust overall benefit cap must end too for every child in poverty to be helped. #Budget

Gambling taxes are long overdue and an ethical way to raise revenue.

But while advertising and lobbying are so rampant, harms will continue until they are controlled. #Budget

A billion-pound jump in gambling income in a single year is not a success story — it’s a warning. We need stronger taxes and urgent action to protect people from an industry built on addiction.

Labour’s awful migrant policies are helping pave the way for the racist far right. And they are also building a gold-plated shed at the end of that road - full of tools for a far right Govt to oppress us all.

Since 2011 the fuel duty freeze has cost the Treasury £133 billion.

This huge amount could have paid for lower train and bus fares, better stations, safer walking, wheeling and cycling and much more!

Rachel Reeves will freeze fuel duty to dodge ‘political suicide’
The chancellor will also highlight a rise in the minimum wage and plans to cut energy bills as she tries to win over voters by focusing on cost of living

Millionaires want a wealth tax!

Delighted to host Gary Stevenson in Parliament to talk about his work with MPs.

We discussed how raising annual revenue through wealth taxes is the most important thing Govt could do in the budget to cut inequality and raise living standards.

Just pathetically in Heathrow’s pocket, Govt backs the airport’s own climate-wrecking expansion plan, the one that requires moving (!) the M25.

Aviation bosses and frequent flyers causing everyone else’s daily lives tons of miserable disruption. Ridiculous!

Heathrow's plan for longer third runway chosen by government
Under the selected plan, the runway would be up to 3.5km long and require a new road tunnel under the airport.

clean air and nature. 😱
🚨 Lords must step up and make sure new Mayors have to take action.

Peers are expected to follow the Nolan Principles. That includes the integrity to work free of owing favours to vested interests.

We might not elect them, but we absolutely deserve ethics and transparency from Peers when it comes to lobbying.

Massive support from councillors and council leaders (from all parties except Reform) for new Mayors to have clear climate and nature duties.

My crucial amendment to the Govt's Devolution Bill will be debated today - will your MP support it?
The UK Parliament will be debating the English Devolution Bill again today. Together with @uk100.org we coordinated a cross-party open letter calling for a climate and nature statutory duty to be included in the Billl.

Next week’s budget must deliver justice for hard-pressed families by fully scrapping the cruel two-child benefit cap and fairly taxing wealth.

With @greenparty.org.uk colleagues I have written to the Chancellor with a very simple message: Cut bills. Tax billionaires.
It is a political choice to keep children in poverty whilst billionaire and multimillionaire wealth grows larger.

@greenparty.org.uk has today written to the Chancellor urging her to use the next week's Budget to tax wealth fairly, cut bills and deliver real change.
