Here's a really tiny violin, and it will play the tune of "maybe if you can't handle habeas cases you shouldn't kidnap people off the street with no due process and fly them to Texas, you fuckers"
NEW: The top Trump-appointed proseutor in MN says his office is dropping "pressing priorities" to manage crushing immigration workload.

His short-staffed office is doing constant overtime and bouncing between contempt hearings.

The bleak assessment:

I think one thing people outside Minnesota don't understand is that after Good and Pretti were killed by feds while observing, the most normal people you could imagine have made peace with the fact that they could be next, and they are still out there because they say it's the right thing to do.
“If I am killed doing this, throw my body at the White House, martyr the shit out of me & raise hell. Do not be sad. Do not think I would do anything differently. I would do it over & over again — this is too important to sit down & shut up and not do anything.” www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

Border patrol has always been a site of horrific human rights abuses. Now our neighbors are experiencing it hundreds of miles away.
"for much of the 2010s and likely before and since, it appears the crime rate of CBP agents and offices was higher PER CAPITA than the crime rate of undocumented immigrants in the United States"

I really appreciate when people who are more knowledgeable than me break down things like this 🧵
A manual for ICE's immigrant-targeting computer system, Palantir ELITE, was leaked today.

Let's look at it, then step back to evaluate how far we've come along a dangerous road and where that road might take us. 🧵
Here is the User Guide for ELITE, the Tool Palantir Made for ICE
404 Media is publishing a version of the user guide for ELITE, which lets ICE bring up dossiers on individual people and provides a “confidence score” of their address.

An (I’m assuming unpopular) thought I have been having is the importance of centering immigrants and refugees in our stories of this moment.

When we center the stories of only observers, we get milquetoast.

Do you know who is brave? The mom who is terrified to go to work accepting help.

Yes I agree. It’s a student led call and people can choose to not participate but you don’t need to be so harsh.
The nationwide strike call is like a lot of student-led actions: grassroots, spread through campuses and social media, a bit messy, and, at worst, not a bad way to let prominent spots around the country show solidarity with MN.

I also see and agree that a general strike takes labor.

I saw the names and realized how blatantly obvious that they are attacking Black journalists.
And there's no mistake that the the feds are going after Black journalists. Absolutely 0%.
The arrests of Don Lemon and Georgia Fort, plus the New York Times story about using facial recognition to take away PreCheck and Global Entry from observers, reveals how closely linked these two missions are. There is no separating ICE’s twin missions of ethnic cleansing and ideological terror.

They're afraid.

One told me she resents how her undocumented coworkers spend their days cleaning the rooms of agents who are “hunting down their family members.”
