This, right here 🎯💯. I’ve been trying to communicate this to people, as a native 🇨🇦, for a year now. Again, the fact that this wasn’t immediately seen as a presidency-ending, beyond-the-pale thing for all 535 Congresspeople, the media, & the public is deeply ugly & shameful for us as a country.
Good rule of thumb for friends is to imagine if China decided to start loudly discussing taking Hawaii, and how quickly you'd see red, and how unfunny you'd find it, and how belligerent your reaction to it would be. That is how Europeans and Canadians feel about this rhetoric from the US.

“Kind, good, happy, gentlemanly, secure people never go Nazi….But the frustrated and humiliated intellectual, the rich and scared speculator, the spoiled son, the labor tyrant, the fellow who has achieved success by smelling out the wind of success—they would all go Nazi in a crisis.” — D. This isn’t about deporting “the worst of the worst.” It’s about deliberately sowing fear and chaos in cities that oppose the Trump regime

New study: “SARS-CoV-2 causes lasting immune dysregulation for over 20 months.” And if most or many people are getting infected once every 12 months, then when does their immune system have time to recover? Immune systems protect against colds & infections but also cancer & other diseases. #COVID

I am usually skeptical of the tepid response of our bishops to moral crises, but I want to give credit that they are making good and necessary responses here ⚓️
NEW: I spoke with this bishop, who offered more context for his (entirely unprepared!) remarks.

Turns out other bishops (e.g., in MN) agree with him, and he recalled the moment he told local priests to get their wills in order.

“There was a little gasp,” he said. religionnews.com/2026/01/15/t...

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.
