GUILDENSTERN: There must have been a moment, at the beginning, where we could have said -- no. But somehow we missed it. Well, we’ll know better next time.
This asshole never has to look back at the audience like a contestant on the price is right because his racism dial only turns in one direction.
Stephen Miller: "If Somalia keeps failing, if these societies all over the world continue to fail, you have to ask yourself if you bring those societies into our country & then give them unlimited free welfare, what do we think is going to happen? You're going to replicate the conditions they left"

Oh good, Glenn Beck has created an AI George Washington. You will be shocked to learn that the AI George Washington created by Glenn Beck sounds exactly like what would happen if Glenn Beck built an AI George Washington to sound exactly like Glenn Beck.

Sure the sport may be known to the rest of the world as FOOTball, but they were justifiably confident that a bunch of hands reaching up for a planetary soccer ball would never strike Trump as deeply weird.

The MAGA Cultural Revolution in action.

I'm not joking, this is a level of intellectual vandalism comparable to the restrictions placed on content at universities in totalitarian states in the middle of vicious mass purges.
TX Tech has a flow chat for guidance on what can be taught in the university system. Two things:
1. Very little content seems to be permitted. This is partisan control of the curriculum.
2. I would not enjoy teaching under these conditions, but I really would not want to be a Chair or Dean.

Democrats need to lay the groundwork for reform by attacking the villains on the Supreme Court - loudly, angrily, personally, relentlessly. And they should start now.

Democrats Need to Treat the Supreme Court Like the Villain It Is
The Court is out of control, and we'll never see reform unless we build the case for it. Starting now.

this is really it — this case isn't about the legitimacy of birthright citizenship or the 14th amendment, it's about the legitimacy of the court, and any ruling that doesn't uphold the former decides the latter
Counterpoint:

The Supreme Court lacks the authority to change the text of the Constitution.

So either it affirms the text or (further, and more completely) nukes its authority as Constitutional arbiter.

There’s no third option. Art III (courts) can’t just usurp Art V (amendments).

Every word of this thread.
A competent opposition party would call a presser and explain that while their party believes that voters should choose politicians and not the other way around, the Republican Supreme Court majority had previously said that extreme gerrymandering was legal if it was about partisanship but...

See also: university presidents/administrators, editors/journalists at the papers/networks of record, CEOs, etc. etc. The skills that secured peak elite status in every societal institution pre-2025 are precisely those least suited for countering a far right authoritarian threat to the Republic.
Personnel is policy is politics: the skills needed to become a senior Democrat, and the life experiences associated with being one, furnish neither the tools to respond to an authoritarian takeover nor a sufficiently visceral understanding of the stakes.

Some of our viewers approach our reporting with the unshakeable belief that the earth is round, while others are convinced that it is flat. How do you make sure that we challenge rather than validate these assumptions?
By situating the Times as nobly filling the space between the diametrically opposed wants of the “left” and the “right” and suggesting that all of these critiques are ideologically motivated and are equally valid (or invalid), this misses the point of much of the criticism of the paper’s coverage.

Every interaction he has with female reporters now has him charging in with unchecked, increasingly unhinged misogynistic belligerence, just itching to bully & insult them and the outlet they work for, no matter what they ask him.

AFAIK not a single male reporter has objected to this, it just is.
TRUMP: If they want to release my MRI it's ok w/me. It's perfect like my phone call where I got impeached

Q: What part of your body were they were looking at?

TRUMP: I have no idea. It was just an MRI. It wasn't the brain bc I took a cognitive test & aced it, which you would be incapable of doing

The New Deal wasn’t built on a promise that there would be “no ceiling” for the richest Americans.

Quite the opposite, in fact. FDR knew its politics could only work if he singled out the rich as villains and knew that its policies could only work if the rich paid their fair share in taxes.

Uh Oh: One of These Three Brothers Killed Their Dad. (Or was it the Creepy Weird Fourth One.)
On the other hand I think it would be very funny to retitle literary fiction light novel style. “Oh No! This Author Stand-In is Unhappily Married”
This attitude is how you end up with light novel titles.

It is a gift to encounter and re-encounter an extremely gifted writer over decades of one's own life *knowing* you are reading and/or witnessing the works of a living talent who will (hopefully) be read & performed for a very long time to come.

Splendid skeet-eulogy by Mark here:
I’m dumbstruck by news of the death of Tom Stoppard—maybe because he hoarded all the words and knew how to use them better than just about anyone. I hope we savor his spectacular wit and erudition and argue about the politics of his plays forever. He was monumental, and also a kind and curious man.

Northwestern’s leaders will likely try to justify their choice to appease fascist extortion with some BS about needing to help researchers get federal funds that were illegally withheld, so it’s important to note that virtually all of the researchers said not to.
So apparently the administrators at Northwestern have caved to the extortionist demands of the Feds. Faculty voted 595-4 AGAINST this measure.
