The exact moment when tech started to suck was when Byte magazine covers went from this, to this, which was September 1987. Sorry if that's earlier than you thought, but Silicon Valley was ahead on these trends.

neolithic guys get pissed if you tell them their cultures are organized by the type of pots and jewelry they made. "we called ourselves the blood hunters" "we conquered villages far beyond this horizon" sorry bud you're the western linear pottery culture now

seems conspicuous that programmer commentary on genAI is split between

"oh yeah i use claude all the time now. the 10× programmer is real and he's me. i am a god"

and

"yeah my coworkers use claude all the time. they keep committing crap that doesn't work and now i spend half my time fixing it"

Fantasy RPG setting where cooking works the way it does in crafting-based video games, like if you assemble a sandwich just right it can let you shoot fire from your eyes and shit, so cooking is a tightly regulated art. You can get thrown in a dungeon for marinating without a license.

If AI has done anything well, it's to get a lot of people to freely reveal how deeply, profoundly lonely they are.

If you are talking to a computer for hours a day, giving it names, and assigning it a gender, there are much bigger problems here than how gullible you are.
If we are banning cell phones for kids we need to be talking about banning chatbots for boomers

I know it's like the least important thing about this, but nothing screams 'terminal LinkedIn brain' to me more than insisting your product is an 'everything app.' It tells me you have no idea what your product is or what value it provides.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

What happens if a simulated computer plays a game in which the target is a chunk of its own memory? Some interesting stuff, it seems.

still thinking about this article today. so many societal ills are caused by people white-washing what actually happens. it's awful to see games do it too.

can't wait for cozy domestic violence simulator or cozy kkk simulator
a wholesome plane has hit the second cozy tower
