Remember kids, it's No Nostalgia Critic November! I TAKE THE PLEDGE
My niece (cousin, technically, but still) is watching "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town," a charming story of how American cultural icon Santa Claus defeats joyless heathen Prussianism, perfect in the context of the postwar years. USA! USA! USA!

Currently— once again— thinking about my plan to do an alternating cycle of 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead' and 'Waiting for Godot' with the same two actors swapping roles each night in a rotating transform.

Anyway.

Goodnight Tom Stoppard, and thank you for lots of things.
You remember the Jonny Lee Miller/Benedict Cumberbatch performances of Frankenstein where they alternated who played Victor & who Played the monster each night?

I want to do that, but w/ a double feature of 'Waiting For Godot' & 'Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead' (yes i plotted the role changes)

Oh shit. Hell of a loss, he was one of the greats. Loved "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead."

The main issue I have with The Vision Bleak's "Weird Tales" is that it is the kind of concert album that works best when listened to in sequence, so I don't usually feel like listening to individual pieces. But that makes it a great album for a long commute or when you are sitting down for while.

Yeah it was eerie to look through the eyes of madness, so to speak, a lunatic who thinks he is the King and is concocting an elaborate conspiracy that exists only in his mind. It's hard to tell just how much the world is FUBAR, given Hildred's insanity, but it's clear something is wrong.
Re-reading "The King in Yellow" for the first time since like...freshman year of college and it's not great just how relevant "Repairer of Reputation" feels right off the bat, I have to say.

I'm sorry, but I can only imagine Vance from "Repairer of Reputations" like this.

"Western civilization," the font, the 11 stars - 11 states in the confederacy, for the record.

Why is this never news? Why are we letting our government agencies do this sort of thing while the news agencies report on hallucinated trade deals and act like everything is normal

It’s wrong to lump all top Trump people in one category. There are differences among them. But they do seem to fall into three (sometimes overlapping) categories:

• Ordinary criminals (grift and corruption).

• Sex criminals.

• War criminals.

I would be perfectly happy destroying most of the elite, private universities and turning them into the pillars of a national university system. Add Northwestern to the pile as well.

Do you ever feel the urge to be lured into the forest by an elf maiden, never to return? Or into a derelict castle by a vampire, never to return?

Mass pardons are coming. There will be no accountability without treating those as null and void. And that means a future administration taking an official position that Trump is not the legitimate president right now because he is disqualified by the 14th Amendment. The two things are inextricable.

Eisenstein: the reversal of movies is that they turn that which a camera can see into something more real than what the eye can see. the most elaborately constructed fake set, becomes more real than a straightforward depiction of the real thing

So Reddit is now talking about how Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are anorexic and maybe in a cult and I just keep wondering if there's some shady PR firm out there paying for sockpuppets to spread these rumors and memes. Then I realize that's probably not a good sign one way or another.

The left doesn't talk about it a lot because the right has spent years doing deficit hawk bullshit under much better fiscal circumstances but one look at any projection of America's fiscal future will turn you into John Boehner. Eventually the world will stop needing or wanting American debt

Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes.

If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

If the plan is to send GOFOs to trial for war crimes, then you are going to have to reckon with coming after a number of very well-connected people with lots of power, and frankly I cannot blame people for being cynical about Democratic politicians' willingness to do so.

Fundamentally, the "armata e cu noi" people need to actually explain why the military that is willing to do this is also unwilling to gun down protesters. "They're American citizens" isn't a sufficient answer, conservatives don't view brown people or liberals as real Americans anyway.
So I'm pretty sure a three star knows that an order to strike alleged combatants who are hors de combat is facially illegal, in case anyone's still having any hangups on whether Bradley needs to be in the dock after this

This thread is great, and not just because it makes me think I am not in fact a moron who didn't get Sicario. It does a good job talking about how Del Toro's character leans into the kind of nihilistic, dark violence the modern right craves.
I have been periodically saying this for a while, but the movie is far more compatible with the worldview of the knuckle-draggers than most people think
Rewatching Sicario for the first time in 6 or 7 years.

I’m reminded of how easy it might be for some 22 y/o to watch this movie and join CBP thinking that if they play their cards right they’re going to be an operator fighting cartels rather than kidnapping construction workers off of the street.
