My parents were told that if Trump won, he would destroy my life, and my livelihood. He would make life for trans people impossible, particularly for our trans son. They knew if he won, were would leave, and they would never see us again.

They did it anyway

Still have no idea why we wrote them off
An annual reminder:

The cognitive & emotional toll of staying in contact with abusive family can be both significant & difficult to recognize.

There's a kind of social contract that abusive parents have violated. You owe them nothing. Nothing.

Thanksgiving doesn't change that.

As the Christmas season begins, Canadians look to their traditions.
One of the most most unique traditions in the country is mummering.
Dating back centuries in Newfoundland and Labrador, it has spread to other parts of Canada.
This is its story.

This aged well. The MOU leaves the federal and AB provincial governments all but say out loud that FN "engagement" will be limited to "how can we get you to incentivize you to agree to what we are planning?". Miles away from good-faith consultation, let alone free, informed, prior consent.
Same goes for First Nations. The federal government is going to spend a lot of time and money in court explaining how they could be serious about consulting with Indigenous peoples in accordance with s35 obligations, when they approved the project in principle before the conversation even began.

trans people really do deserve to have some kind of preservation across the generational arcs of time because there are so few of that exist it is trivial for our records of existence to disappear just on how history degrades over time alone, when we become targeted our limited links become broken
I stood there and cried about how a hundred years later I was standing there. I felt a deep ache for the trans people who don’t exist yet with a conviction to leave some kind evidence of my life ahead of my span of creation because the information about us is precious, rare, fragile and ephemeral

When these people are outed, it presses on that identity wound. It has actual Indigenous people, within the vast diversity of Indigenous experiences, re-evaluating their own authenticity. Again. It's almost impossible to escape this feeling of not being enough, because that's been THE colonial goal.
