Please, tell me again how I'm wrong when I say that the GOP isn't just racist, they're genuinely fascist when they think no one is in the room with them.

I'm not paranoid: I just understand the GOP better than the people who tell me I'm wrong. www.politico.com/news/2025/10...
‘I love Hitler’: Leaked messages expose Young Republicans’ racist chat
Thousands of private messages reveal young GOP leaders joking about gas chambers, slavery and rape.

Yes, you're right. Both are Maiar. But, between Galadriel and Morgoth, you're dealing with the two biggest players in all of Valinor / Middle Earth history. Gandalf didn't show up to Middle Earth until the late Second Age (by some sources) at the earliest.

Republicans have latched onto the talking point that "No Kings" and other protesters all "hate America". (Scalise said the exact same thing this morning at a presser).

It's telling though that in their world, anyone who disagrees with Trump and the GOP "hates America": disagreement is treason.

Emmer: "We call it the 'Hate America' rally because you'll see the hate for America all over this thing when they show up. The rumor is that they can't end this shutdown because this small but very violent and vocal group is the only one that's happy about this."

Sitting with Merry and Pippin was my second choice. If it's a trans Pacific flight to New Zealand, we're going to get LIT.
brynntannehill.bsky.social
I'm taking seat 7: the only two beings on the flight who could describe the light of the two trees of Valinor, having witnessed them personally (one as a young elf, and the other as a Maiar lieutenant to the Valar Melkor aka Morgoth).

Yes, I read the Silmarillion.

Twice.

I am that sicko.

Remarkably level headed, objective article. Well done. It mirrors a lot of my thinking.
brynntannehill.bsky.social
Except, for trans people, it may be even worse than the US (for now, they haven't started rounding people up and putting them in "mental institutions" with barbed wire like Rep Mace and Jackson have been pushing for)
brynntannehill.bsky.social
Why not both? Weiss is likely to going to fail spectacularly by being wildly unqualified, unlikable, and pushing opinions that revolt CBS News core viewing audience, while turning it into a shill for baseless conservative talking points.

Meh. Why would they need to resort to shennanigans worse than re-districting when the courts have already allowed Trump to bypass Congress anyway? They're successfully consolidated all the power with the executive branch and a captured supreme court.

Minty cigarettes are a flavored tobacco. Why are you being pedantic?
brynntannehill.bsky.social
Any time I see a referendum that claims to be about protecting business it immediately tells me that it's sketchy.

In this case, they're trying to get rid of the ban on flavored tobacco products.

Mom! Can we have Lancet?

No dear, we already have Lancet at home.
brynntannehill.bsky.social
Ask the same question, but without the 1 to 1 currency conversion. Bet the Gez number hoes way down.
brynntannehill.bsky.social
You're both right. Kind of glad I probably won't be around to see it.

More a Germany or Soviet Union. Freedom of speech exists on paper and in theory, but not in practice.

The list goes on and on. (I need to write a full article about it). The GOP is governing like a party that never expects to face a competitive election again, and when you look at all the options they have on the table, yeah, that's a reasonable assumption on their parts.
brynntannehill.bsky.social
Have you thought about all the ways the GOP can ensure that a Democrat will never be sworn in as President ever again?

Local and state election boards nullifying elections and throwing it to the house, Refusing to certify the election in the House and Senate, Vance refuses to do a Pence, etc...
brynntannehill.bsky.social
Uh-huh. And you think voting will work? Sorry, but we passed the event horizon on January 20th, and about all I can do is convince people of that fact. Maybe the US will disintegrate, and some people will still get to live in a democracy with rights, instead of none of us.

That's the BEST case.

Eventually, the system breaks as people, and the pro-bono legal agencies out there, don't have the money or lawyers left to defend everyone. We've seen people obeying in advance all the time, and taking the much easier route is just human nature.

You think Trump won't intimidate defense law firms?

Justices failing to uphold Trump's interpretation of inciting a riot? That's inciting a riot.
