I really wish that more of the response to the whole Greenland situation was "Greenland is already colonized and cannot gain anything from its colonial rule being switched from one malevolent racist nation to another."

Kalaallit, Inughuit and Tunumiit should be free, autonomous people.

Been watching the OG Star Trek for the first time and I'm surprised by two things:

1. Kirk is nothing like the lurid horn dog some media portray him as, instead being an honor-bound workaholic that's married to his job.

2. All the Kirk x Spock shipping Boomers did was 1000% justified oh mai gooood

Crite, who spent most of his life & career in Boston, was a devout Episcopalian whose art consistently celebrated his religious faith. I absolutely adore his so-called "transit madonnas," which find holiness in the everyday ("Our Lady of the Elevated Station"; "Madonna of Dudley Station")

Because it's a good day, a thread of images from fantastic show I saw last week: African-American artist Allan Rohan Crite at Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. First up, Crite's luminous "Streetcar Madonna," which resonates with incoming NYC mayor's pledge to make transit more affordable

Sara Ahmed's piece about trying to help women students who were abused by their leftist profs. at Goldsmiths being called "neoliberal" if they tried to report them lives rent free in my head. It's so gross. Abusers wreck "the cause". Not the people they abuse who speak up about the abuse.

Steve isn’t here anymore, but he always posted this picture on Hanukkah so I thought we could carry on his tradition and remember him.
Happy Hanukkah to our friends who celebrate. Rachel Posner, a rabbi’s wife in Kiel, Germany, took this photograph in 1931 -- a potent reminder that fascism must be fought in every generation, even if it's wrapped in an American flag and a red hat.

The right’s preferred gender ideology—one of male supremacy, women’s exclusion from dignity, citizenship, and vast spheres of public life, and an enforced heterosexuality of eroticized domination—is much more prescriptive, aggressive, and ubiquitously pushed than anything coming from trans people.
Conservatives have their own "gender ideology" they are pushing constantly, and it's one that's built on coercion and treating women like property.

I read this year, completely at random. Bizarre and painful. I think it's an underrated gem and could be read as a feminist classic.
What a sad, strange book. After the death of her mother, a young woman is left with a violent, bullying father and his new spiteful girlfriend. What starts as a kind of Cinderella tale becomes something simultaneously more fantastic and unsettling - a story of innocence in a cruel world.
