This tweet is actually about San Francisco
I'm not usually a One Easy Trick person but amidst all of the discourse about #bospoli property taxes...I really do think that large-scale pedestrianization would be a cheat code for downtown being pretty much the best CBD in the country.

Jonathan Hale was arrested by LAPD today for painting a crosswalk, even as the city of Los Angeles funnels more money to LAPD and does gymnastics to avoid implementing HLA.

@mayor.lacity.gov, Jonny has made repeated attempts to meet with your office and has been iced out. Angelenos deserve better.

I agree with Miles. Muni Metro is just a bad system, its worse than the bus. Its proof the new vehicles with the slow doors make a slow system even slower. The only good-ish part is the subway portions which should be fully separated from the streetcars, anyways.

L.A. redesigned a road to slow traffic. People fought to reverse the safety improvements and won. Then one of the advocates hit and killed a woman walking her dog (the dog died too).

This should be a lawsuit. The city is liable along with the driver.

America’s plan to protect pedestrians failed. A young woman’s death reveals why.
U.S. officials adopted Europe's Vision Zero initiative, but many cities have seen an increase in pedestrian fatalities despite efforts to improve road safety.

How many people shoving you does it take for an adult to learn to take off their backpack on a packed subway train? This ain’t 2021, my friends. The trains are too crowded for you to wear backpacks.

I hope every transit agency doesn't shut up about this for months

out there every day putting signs in front of drivers telling them transit just got cheaper so why not take the bus and enjoy not being stuck in traffic

this is one of the largest non-capital project changes to transit in decades
Starting next week, riding this bus and most other buses to BART will be FREE!

Clipper 2 rolls out on December 10, including free and low cost transfers between all transit agencies.

Riders will automatically receive discounts up to $2.85 when transferring within a two hour window.
December 2, 2025 at 6:48 PM
You will either need to wait for your existing Clipper card to be upgraded to 2.0, or pay using a CC/tap-to-pay on your phone (note: not a digital a Clipper card; see first point)

The transition could be less confusing, but this will be HUGE when it happens

We can restore at least 2019 service if we pass Muni Now, Muni Forever's community parcel tax proposal.

But Daniel Lurie is pushing his own version that would lock in cuts (in order to save millions for downtown companies like Marc Benioff's Salesforce who just got Trump tax cuts). Write a letter!

SF has the same problem: a fire department obsessed with the risk they've largely solved (fire) and unwilling to consider safer streets at the same priority. Vision Zero isn't even mentioned in the SFFD capital plan. Hard to buy equipment fit to use when you're not considering the use.

there are *incredibly negative* health effects associated w/ noise

annoyance, dementia, cardiac issues, death

and yet we do NOT measure noise pollution in the US - don't do anything to mitigate it either

in fact it's the opposite: we focus density on the loudest roads

bsky.app/profile/holz...
i don't know what it will take for planners to understand that noise pollution, air pollution, and unsafe streets are not the sorts of places we should be focusing dense and affordable housing

this isn't even a major arterial - and look how loud it is midday on a friday.

In which SFMTA staff "recommend" (but they're not letting the board vote, they're just going to do it) expanding Waymo, Uber, and Lyft onto what was supposed to be car-free Market 24/7.

Come to City Hall 12/2 at 4pm and tell the board to close the loophole instead.

We warned you that self-driving cars would just create self-driving traffic jams, and here they are.

The car industry has no solution to the shortage of space in cities. Public transit, cycling, and walking are all part of the answer, but cars are not.
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

Almost half the Waymos on California streets are driving around empty. They're either waiting for the next customer or en route for a pickup.

If robotaxis scale, anything close to that level of deadheading would create crushing gridlock.
