Tell your normie friends that it’s fucked up that the US government is building concentration camps and that if we don’t stop this now it only ends in one place.

We have arrived in San Francisco! Our appearance at @litquake.org tomorrow night is sold out, but tix are still available for this. I'm really looking forward to talking to these amazing people. See you there, SF!
We (YIMBY Action) will be hosting the co-hosts of The War On Cars for a live conversation this Saturday along with special guests like State Senator Scott Wiener. Should be a fun one! Grab your ticket today www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticket...
This resonates so hard. I feel like people push back against any enforcement with protests about average drivers, but we've let that stop us from going after the absolutely batshit worst offenders
"Excessive" works too.

But in all honesty, even projects that don't change the median speed *at all* might have huge safety benefits by bringing down 85th and 95th percentile speeds.

So the law abiding drivers might not even be affected or have their travel times changed.

Do we want public transit to *be* safe or *feel* safe? This paragraph from an @opb.org article on transit security in Portland captures why this issue is so hard. Crime is way down since '20 but some people don't feel safe. Why? 🧵 1/

Plot twist: High-viz clothes are *more* dangerous for pedestrians.

"Wearing high-visibility clothing could actually make [cars' pedestrian detection] technology less likely to spot a person strolling in the dark."
'Embarrassment': Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking Still Flawed at Night — Streetsblog USA
Relying solely on vehicle automation for pedestrian detection and collision avoidance is not advised, a new study said.

“You can win elections by tacking to the middle; lots of people have. But you can also win elections by staking a moral position and convincing people to agree with you. You can earn support by demonstrating what is important to you instead of just being determined to nod along with what you hear.”
Pretty sure I saw you in front of city hall! ✊
Great vibes at the foot of Market St! #nokings

So as I've said many times. Ignorant lectures about how transit managers should care about security are missing the point. They know!

The question is: What should we do about it, and who should pay for that? 8/

Big update to our San Francisco book event with @yimbyaction.bsky.social on Oct 25. Given the passage of SB79, we're thrilled to welcome CA Sen Scott Weiner, Berkley Councilmember Rashi Kesarwani, and KQED Reporter Adhiti Bandlamudi. cc: @yimbylaura.bsky.social Tickets: www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticket...
Immediately reminded me of this mural (which I think still exists behind some plywood at 21st & Mission)

BART is already the most efficient rail agency in the nation at providing service. It is unreasonable to squeeze even more cost savings than BART already has.

BART riders deserve more service, not less!

When will Caltrans start adding time via transit to their freeway signs? ⏳
Take transit.

It’s safer, better for the environment and it will support our ability to fund service and make improvements.

For all the talk of what Weiss is going to do at CBS, I think this is the most likely outcome.
Happened so long ago now in SF that I forget it's not normal everywhere

11 billion is just a little under half the amount needed to get High Speed Rail out of the Central Valley and into the Bay Area, transforming mobility in the state.

Or we can spend it so that people can drive from the booming metropolises of Novato and Vallejo.

Tough call.
The entire proposed Highway 37 Solano-Marin super bridge is estimated to cost $11 billion, all to replace an existing road between a couple of suburbs. And it's proposed at 114 feet wide.

For comparison, the Golden Gate Bridge is 90 feet wide.
Caltrans has released a cross section for the ultimate (raised viaduct) version of SR-37.

Now maybe I'm just being paranoid, but if you were building a road that you planned to keep at 4 lanes wide, I don't think it would look like this.
Also, I realize #SFMuni was just parking their handle here and not checking it, but looks like there's some problem with the account now 🙃
This is exactly why the chopping the 5-Fulton, 9-San Bruno, etc off at Market St is so dumb. It's ~halved frequency for most riders, who are going downtown
The #1 piece of advice that TransLink's CEO offers other North American transit agencies:

Provide frequent service

This one highway is projected to cost 85% of what CA has spent on high-speed rail over 15 years and hundreds of miles. If we can afford this, we can afford high-speed rail.
