👇🎯 Not once has the national media asked a GOP politician about affording ICE the way Biden/the Dems were asked about the cost of
student loan debt relief & literally everything else for the last 50 years.
Folks are dying from winter storms and the power has been out for a week but the government can spend big money on detention camps. bsky.app/profile/cost...
How many times in your life have you heard a member of Congress or someone on TV say “we can’t afford it” when talking about something small but very important? It’s been happening my entire life. We can’t afford it? They’re putting seven times the annual budget of the EPA into immigrant detention.

The US Holocaust Museum being more outraged by Tim Walz saying that, like Anne Frank, children today are in hiding from armed agents of the state, than they are about the fact that children are in hiding from armed agents of the state, is why Holocaust remembrance culture is in crisis.

the whole "the north was just as racist" narrative was made to distract from this shit and it's time we stop perpetuating it.
the southern aristocracy was built on pedophiliac rape and that was the thing that more than anything else converted Northerners who encountered it from begrudging soldiers to crusaders.

I think both calling for abolishing ICE is fine and casting what ICE is doing as inherent to immigration enforcement is an extremely bad idea because if you frame the choice as "open borders or this" lots of people will choose this. It also just isn't true, Canada has borders and IRCC don't do this

it's like someone conducting a home invasion and shooting the occupants dead, and then claiming that the occupants were terrorists planning to bomb a bus. "so far, no evidence has emerged" doesn't suffice to describe what happened. what happened is that a killer is transparently lying

Pretti clearly did not brandish his gun. Which means the government is saying he was killed for legally exercising his right to carry.

It’s as clear-cut a violation of the Second Amendment as I can possibly imagine. And we’re about to see the bulk of the gun rights crowd defend his murder.

yes, the Australian, Canadian, British, etc monarchies just all happen to be held by the same person! in *theory* they could diverge (except that they have an agreement for none of them to change the succession rules without consulting the others)
And legally speaking has *noting* to do with the British Monarchy either! The fact that they're the same person is constitutionally irrelevant.
I legitimately always forget Canada is a constitutional monarchy

Just want to make sure that people understand, this guy isn't saying this because he's ignorant or stupid, he's saying it because he does not believe we should live in a free society. That is the entire Republican Party. They do not believe in living in a free society.

An underrated factor in "why don't people in wealthy societies have more kids" is changing societal norms that now expect even older kids to be chaperoned by an adult any time they are in public, and to be chauffeured by a parent as their only means of transportation
Older generations spent a lot less time parenting. Millennial dads spend nearly as much time parenting as Boomer moms did. Millennial and Gen X moms way more.

Renee Good was still alive after ICE attempted to summarily execute her. They didn't render aid to the "f*king bitch" and blocked a doctor who was on scene from doing so. She bled out all by herself for 6 minutes when she might have been saved with *any* care. There is no punishment sufficient.
Holy shit.

Renee Good was alive when the bystander physician asked to check her pulse. She was alive when ICE refused to let him help. She was alive when they told him “I don’t care.”

If the figures we're getting out of Iran are in the right league, this weekend was, I think, one of the bloodiest state crackdowns of all time. People are talking 12,000-20,000 dead; for comparison Hungary in 1956 was about 2,500, Tiananmen - across country, in multiple cities - probably 1000+

This is also why I find it so maddening when reactionary centrists spend their time debating what trans people "did" to draw the ire of the right. It's completely backwards from reality. The right latched onto the issue because it's a gateway drug to every other form of bigotry!

literally anybody whose *actual job* involves having to watch atrocity videos will tell you it's hugely psychologically self-destructive and not something you should voluntarily put yourself through on a daily basis.
Nobody is supposed to be able to "handle" witnessing atrocity and those who think they can are lying to themselves! You're fucking yourself up to feel holy! That's a hairshirt!
Then you aren’t someone I was talking to with my statement. Some people can handle it. Some people can’t. Neither is better than the other. It is up to each person to recognize their own limits. I choose to bear witness, I refuse to become numb to this stuff, I am taking action, & that is my choice.
