Vancouver city councillor @lucymaloney.bsky.social has introduced a new Council motion that would get rid of right turns on red lights in the city. Via @dailyhivevancouver.bsky.social

Unquestionably the smart, evidence-based move for EVERYONE’s safety, but especially for people walking & on bikes.

I’m actually impressed by how Heated Rivalry is leaning into its structural weirdness and just going for it.

What is this, a housing plan for ants?
Looks like no help from the Feds on Housing:
"That modest contribution... would lead to the construction of just 26,000 new units over the next five years, 13,000 of which would be affordable homes for low-income households — or about 3.7 per cent of the housing gap"

Right, that's exactly where you wanna build a data center – in a place which has half a second of ping to anywhere on Earth and is perfectly heat-insulated on all sides.

Thread on what I've seen as a journalist for @thetyee.ca this week at DULF's constitutional challenge. They're arguing closing their compassion club put marginalized people at risk of overdose and death.
Explainer article coming early next week.
Been covering DULF's constitutional challenge for @thetyee.ca this week. Crown prosecutors have tried to poke lots of small holes in what founders Eris Nyx and Jeremy Kalicum were doing. Nyx and Kalicum have largely defended themselves saying they were doing the best they knew how at the time.

I’m honestly shocked that this story from @globalnews.ca has flown under the radar. Confirmation that Amit Shah, the second-most powerful man in the Indian government, was directly involved in the assassinations on Canadian soil. globalnews.ca/news/1151469...

In this past decade of mass death, there were timid steps in the right direction - at first. But the most coherent, passionate response from the state (and its various apparatus) has been to smash DULF, hire more cops & roll back what little harm reduction we had won.

Some breaking news: in a special Vancouver Police Board meeting only announced over the weekend, the police board has requested a $50 million increase to their budget for 2026.

This comes as other departments across the city are trying to cut staff to ensure a property tax freeze for next year.

Canada Post is not a goddamn business and it's infuriating that the government keeps talking like it is. We never hear about how much money the army loses, or how deep in the red Environment Canada is. But the Canada Post, it never stops. And it's bullshit.
It’s absolutely right that workers walk off the job in response to the government taking a chainsaw to Canada Post.

If we lose the unique national infrastructure the postal service has, it will never be rebuilt. We should be using it to expand services to the public, not nickel and diming it.
