We keep saying we’re done with character home gut renovations …. But here we are again

“Davidson has a few multiplex projects on the go, partly a result of his ability to get slightly more square footage than nominally allowed because he is using passive-house techniques to create net zero energy-efficient homes.”

“If cities had allowed this 10 years ago, it would have worked quite well,” says Bryn Davidson, co-owner of Lanefab Design/Build “

We’re on site at E3rd with Martin from UBC / Futuri Power - looking at the potential to test a smart electrical panel.

Smart panels have the potential to reduce service sizes and dramatically scale up how many homes can be all electric w existing hydro infrastructure.

Q: what do you think of vancouver after being away 6 years?

“Hmm kind of the same… there’s been a shift away from cycling in recent politics. We hope the energy can be re-ignited.

In 2019 we felt Vancouver had momentum… but then it disappeared”

Our visits to Delhi brought us to understand it would be its own version, not just a transplant of the Netherlands”

Talking about school streets - removing parking and traffic from streets near schools as part of an outward growing network.

(Aside - This was part of the idea behind the St George rainway …)

Ok, I've been pondering some of the ways that BC's new housing minister @christineboyle.bsky.social might build on the expansive work championed by @ravikahlon.bsky.social and her previous work as a @cityofvancouver.bsky.social councillor.

So - here's a first draft: 🧵
