Transit polls well. We use that popularity to push for more reliable and abundant transit. Let's make it better than driving.

My favourite sign from yesterday’s protest against the CAQ. A gov’t unable to see Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab as complex individuals possessing their own autonomy. Always treated as docile victims or demonized vectors of religious extremism. Never just ppl making their own decisions.

If anyone ever says that more people in a city would overtax public infrastructure, it's a good time to ask: "what infrastructure?"
SF has:
- declining school enrollment
- the best access to urban rec and park space in California
- sewer, water and other utilities under capacity. In Western SF more density makes it more affordable to serve these locations
- better transit access thru Muni Forward improvements

I know that many other cities don’t plow their sidewalks, leaving it up to property owners. This is completely crazy to me.

Our sidewalk plows look like this and they do a pretty good job.

Next time you hop off the bus or SkyTrain, take a moment to see what local gems await you. By choosing to shop local, you’re not just supporting small businesses—you’re also contributing to a more vibrant community.

Transit turning a profit in Florida would have been a miracle of biblical proportions. The question in my mind is whether this will be turned over to Amtrak or just disappear. Maybe the next owner can deal with the carnage this train is wreaking at level crossings?
In #Florida, Brightline is running longer trains.

Not good news! It shows the private railroad is in trouble.

"This summer, there were 32 trains racing between two cities each day, 16 northbound, 16 southbound. Now there are only 10 trains in each direction."

Bus priority infrastructure in Asian cities always stuns me. Our electric bus (that runs every 10 minutes) is speeding down a center running bus lane.

It’s a ~40 minute ride to dinner and I’m seriously enjoying it.

Food for thought: the 13.5 km/h average trip speed for Line 6 Finch West is slower than the PM peak average trip speed of 13.9 km/h for the 507 Long Branch streetcar, which has no private right of way for most of the route.

In comparison, Lines 1 and 2 average 30 km/h and Line 4 averages 37 km/h.
The TTC has published the schedule for 6 Finch West, and the travel times/speeds are not impressive compared to the existing bus service. stevemunro.ca/2025/11/28/6...

The R6 rapidbus in metro Vancouver travels down a similarly congested sururban arterial street slowest with modest transit priority measures is at worst scheduled around 20km/h average. How is 13.5km/h even possible.

I really wish lay people understood that there is nothing intrinsically faster in at-grade, on-street rail compared to buses. If anything, it has a number of constraints that can make it potentially slower. It's the quality of priority that determines its performance, not the rail.

And for this reason, the recommendation in the review for a sustainable transit funding model cannot be overstated!

This is how we go from a transit death spiral to a system that provides the broad societal value the CleanBC review says it does.

Interesting new working paper that studies chains of movers after the construction of a new apartment building in Honolulu.

Paper finds that the project resulted in the opening up other, lower cost, housing on the island, benefiting the housing market overall.

The children yearn for the bus lanes.

"I think bus lanes are a great idea. Just so it's easier and faster for everyone that rides the bus".

Such wisdom from our younger generation. Great to see!

Really can't overstate how problematic robotaxis become at scale:

"Urban traffic is constrained by the fact that getting around by car either requires (expensively) paying someone else to drive or (inconveniently) driving oneself. Without such constraints the result could be brutal gridlock."
Self-driving cars will transform urban economies
