Our first #GoByTransitWeekYVR in Metro Vancouver was such a hit! We had a blast celebrating transit riders and showing politicians the need for better transit. We thank the 14 political figures all across the political spectrum, and levels of government who joined us in celebrating GoByTransitWeek.

- there's variation in the length of meetings so it's hard to predict when it will be your turn to speak, but you can follow along with the meeting on the youtube stream and keep an eye on your email to know when it's your time to call in

Some tips for speaking to council:
- start off by clearly stating your support for the motion
- remember politicians are elected by you and they work for you!
- numbers and stats are useful, but sharing your personal experience can be very impactful

Without the alternative options like good transit, many people are stuck with the expensive burden of car ownership. By improving transit, families can more easily forgo a vehicle and save an average save of over $10,000 a year!

Cars expensive! Transit cheap!

A new study finds that high transportation costs are driven largely by owning vehicles and people who live by rapid transit have a lower cost of living.

We're absolutely shocked!

TransLink is asking you which route the BRT should take

OPTION 1: Hastings St and Willingdon Ave

OPTION 2: Boundary Rd and Lougheed Hwy

Why we support
OPTION 1

Option 1 serves more people with fast, frequent, and reliable transit

60,000 daily riders will bring new potential customers direct to Burnaby Heights businesses

It addresses the worst bus delay in Burnaby! Also, R5 buses to SFU can use the BRT lanes

Eileen Daily Pool, Confederation Park, and McGill Library would be totally skipped by Option 2

Why transit riders support
OPTION 1

It doesn’t expand the rapid transit network because no stops are planned along Boundary

Gilmore to Brentwood is already served by the SkyTrain. We don’t need to duplicate that service

Routes BRT through low-density neighbourhoods, business parks, and BC Hydro infrastructure

What is Bus Rapid Transit?

Seattle put in BRT and ridership doubled in less than a year

What is the Metrotown-North Shore BRT?

This new BRT route will go from Metrotown to Park Royal in only 60 minutes
