The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

“Though the Legault government refers to Bill 9 as ‘Secularism 2.0,’ this law completely betrays the definition and goals of secularism: neutrality of the state in all matters of religion.”

My favourite sign from yesterday’s protest against the CAQ. A gov’t unable to see Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab as complex individuals possessing their own autonomy. Always treated as docile victims or demonized vectors of religious extremism. Never just ppl making their own decisions.

2 years today since my dad passed away and I still miss him fiercely.
Miss you dad. Hope you’re having an extra smashed cheeseburger somewhere and laughing at a really bad joke. ❤️🍔

Quel gouvernement rétrograde.

So many contemporary laws and policies in 🇨🇦 &⚜️show complete disregard, ignorance even, for the distinct principle of substantive equality. This is just one of an abundance of recent examples. If substantive equality is no longer alive in the imaginations of legislators, does it even exist?

Caught the premiere of Kimberly Akimbo, the Tony Award-winning musical at the Segal Centre last night. It was great! Never thought I’d love a dysfunctional family so much. Lol
Much to my surprise, the Segal might be turning me on to musicals. Catch it before it leaves for Toronto!

It's not secularism if it doesn't come from the laīcité region of France.
Despite what the bill’s supporters claim, true secularism doesn’t seek the erasure of religion from the public sphere, but protects religious minorities from any state-imposed religion.

Toula nails it: "By preventing any hypothetical women forced to wear religious symbols from attaining an education or a job, the government is not only sabotaging their integration but also dooming them to an existence it claims it wants to protect them from: fully reliant on their oppressors."
