The Polytechnique massacre wasn't just a mass shooting — it was a mass femicide. The gunman explicitly targeted women and blamed feminists for the troubles in his life. We must fight like hell to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Don’t you dare forget their names.

“As a society, we continue to deny the straight line between the minimization of everyday violence against women and the more horrific forms of misogyny that eventually materialize. The groundwork for gender-based violence is laid out daily in a world that allows misogyny to be normalized.”

“Nearly all of our modern gun control legislation came about as a consequence of the tragedy and subsequent lobbying by the gun control advocates born at Polytechnique that night.

“We must fight like hell to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

The memory of the mass femicide at Polytechnique is still painful.

Today marks the 36th anniversary of the Montreal massacre, where 14 women — students at Université de Montréal’s École Polytechnique — lost their lives in a mass shooting motivated by misogyny.

“This is why ethno-nationalists like PSPP and François Legault view Marc Miller as a threat — a multilingual Quebec Anglophone Francophile tasked with empowering Quebec and Canadian culture essentially undermines everything the PQ and CAQ currently stand for.” @taylornoakes.com
