My favourite sign from yesterday’s protest against the CAQ. A gov’t unable to see Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab as complex individuals possessing their own autonomy. Always treated as docile victims or demonized vectors of religious extremism. Never just ppl making their own decisions.

2 years today since my dad passed away and I still miss him fiercely.
Miss you dad. Hope you’re having an extra smashed cheeseburger somewhere and laughing at a really bad joke. ❤️🍔

Parce que priver ces étudiants d’une éducation ou d’une emploi, ça va vraiment aider leur intégration dans la société québécoise…
Quel gouvernement rétrograde.

Caught the premiere of Kimberly Akimbo, the Tony Award-winning musical at the Segal Centre last night. It was great! Never thought I’d love a dysfunctional family so much. Lol
Much to my surprise, the Segal might be turning me on to musicals. Catch it before it leaves for Toronto!

Many supporters of Bill 21 (and now Bill 94) insist secularism legislation aims “to protect women and gender equality.”
Trust me when I tell you, most don’t give a damn. Femonationalism & gendered Islamophobia are all the rage these days.
Just a tiny sample from this morning.👇

A big thank you to everyone who came by the Salon du livre de Montréal yesterday to say hi, purchase a copy of my books, or brought their own copy from home for me to sign.
Always a pleasure to meet ppl who’ve been touched by my writing in some way.

As the daughter of immigrants, I could do with a lot less François Legault.

I had a fantastic time at last night’s opening of the Black Theatre Workshop’s ‘our space,’ a very funny, yet deeply poignant play about immigration and the length people are willing to go to improve their lives and the lives of those they love.

Sometimes I like to imagine MBC sitting in a Parisian cafe, munching on a pain au chocolat, thinking up ways to shit on Montreal.
Lord knows, he’ll never be accused of Quebec bashing.
Anyway…

Doing the one thing I shouldn’t be doing: buying more books. 😩😂
All weekend 10-4 pm. Westmount Library’s annual used book sale at Victoria Hall.

Winter came early this year but I can’t be mad. First snowfall is always so pretty. ❄️😍

Yup. That’s why I wrote two books on the subject.

Gorgeous afternoon. Long walk with a friend and a Dalla Rose scoop afterwards. Ricotta/thyme/olive oil. Perfection!

Caught another beautiful sunrise while biking this morning. It was chilly. You can tell September is around the corner and I DON’T LIKE IT.
