The answer is very simple, Starmer has no real political coalition. His appeal is to what I'd call totalitarian pessimists – people who truly believe politics is just triangulation towards perpetual decline, a game of optimizing the management of ever-dwindling resources. This is the reverse of how liberals act about protest of any kind that is done outside of the rules. If you do not have your papers in order, then your tactics, however just your cause, are suspect. On the other hand, if you file the proper papers, your cause, no matter how vile, is now acceptable.

it was from the leadership candidate that I will be supporting (@avilewis.ca). if he is chosen it will be a sign to me that ppl realize the moment we find ourselves in, &what the moment requires. I've seen no sign of that kind of insight ++years. I will latch on to the slightest sign of hope however
