Alberta declares a tuberculosis outbreak in Edmonton.

This combined with such an increase of homelessness is terrible.

This comes just days after Canada lost its measles elimination status—with Alberta having highest case concentrations.

PUBLIC HEALTH LEADERSHIP NOW!

The #UCP ARE ON THE RUN FROM #RECALL ACTION. They've suddenly become more accountable and compromising...because they are finally afraid we, their NORMAL constituents, are able to hold them to account...keep up the #recalls they are only playing nice. It's only because we are pushing hard. #abpoli

Today Elections Alberta requested $13.5 million to be able to administer recalls and referendum.

The UCP committee in charge revised their request to just over $1 million.

And then voted it through.

The UCP just defunded recall/referendum.

Part of a general UCP policy of gutting or defunding (or in some cases both) accountability mechanisms. We see the same thing in access to information where inadequate funding leads to delays & dysfunction as demonstrated by @drewyewchuk.bsky.social in many @ablawg.bsky.social posts.

Helpfully he put a number on the amount the #UCP has cheated our kids.

They owe our kids $2 Billion! Where from? Don't care. Get the oil companies to clean up their mess? Get tax $ out of private schools? #abed #abpoli

Alberta is going to be hurting

ConocoPhillips Philips is laying off 25% of its global workforce

Chevron is laying off 20% of its Canadian workforce

SLP and BP are also laying off Canadian workers

Why?

The drop in oil prices and restructuring

Simplifying in broadstrokes a common example:

UCP/MAGA want quality education only in private schools.
then public school kids are perpetually disadvantaged; a permanent underclass of exploitable labour.

Think! And then get in #UCP's way.

#ableg #abpoli
“A study, published on Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine, showed that last season’s 2024–2025 mRNA COVID vaccines reduced people’s risk of emergency department visits by 29%, their risk of hospitalizations by 39% & their risk of death by 64%”

Benefits were seen even if 0 risk factors
Annual COVID Vaccines Protect People against Severe Disease, Even with Prior Immunity

"The new research also “calls into question the idea that younger individuals and those without risk factors don’t need the vaccine,” Viswanathan says."
