#CBC Alberta at Noon program with a guest representing (and defending obvs) private charter schools had me yelling at the radio. If you’re wanting a private choice for education, then YOU should be paying for it, not w/taxpayer $. I will vote yes on the petition to defund Alberta charter schools.

The results show school aged children are 56%, NDP voters are 87%, while UCP voters are 28%, in favour of the teachers.
The results show school aged children are 27%, while the UCP are 40% in support of the government. The margin of NDP voters in support of the government is too small a percentile to view.
The results show school aged children are 20%, NDP voters are 8%, while UCP voters are only 28%, in favour of neither the teachers nor the government.
Overall, Alberta shows 58% are in support of the teachers, while 21% are in support of the government, while 18% are Neither.

IMHO, Alberta public school funds should NOT be used for private schools. If you can afford to take your kid out of the public system and put him in an academy then you should not require any assistance from the general public.

Public dollars should only fund programs or institutions to which the entire public has equal access. That is not the case with private schools.

If folks opt out of public institutions & instead choose a private route, they are free to do so. Tax dollars should not fund their decision.
