You can argue up and down about any value private schooling can bring to the field of education, but all of it is moot until public education is properly funded.

Functional society requires that public social issues be viewed through the lens of the vulnerable and marginalized, not the privileged.

Again I reiterate that public schools have ONE source of funding: the public. Private schools do not. Public funding needs to stay in the public system which is accessible to all children, especially during an under-funding and overcrowding crisis. Private schools are not reliant on public funding.

Supporting vulnerable students is very important!

Provinces such as Ontario show that private schools can continue to run without government funding. Schools would adjust and students with disabilities at specialized private schools would still have those choices.

Within public schools, there are also specialized schools and programs
A which would be better funded & perhaps expanded with more government funding.

How much of a “choice” is it with barriers including selective admission
processes and high tuition costs?

Government Funding going to Private Schools would be better spent on Public education.

1. Funding for public schools is inadequate.

2. Alberta has systematically reduced funding for public schools since the 1990's while increasing its use of taxpayer money towards private schools.

3. Private schools operate successfully in other provinces without taxpayer support.

4. UCP choosing not to track classroom sizes in Alberta results in a lack of transparency. Other data clearly shows that student population growth in the public system has dramatically outpaced the growth in the teacher population. Increased class sizes are the inevitable result.

5. The Alberta Government has all the tools it needs to increase funding for public schools to a fair level. If "lack of funds" is the only reason for not doing so, the Government has the power to reduce funding to Private schools and allocate that money to the public system at no net increased cost to taxpayers.

Customers should expect delays as CUPW moves to rotating strikes

Canada Post will welcome back employees represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) on Saturday, October 11 as the union moves from a full, national strike to rotating strikes. Plans are now underway to ensure a safe and orderly restart of our national operations, which were shut down without warning on September 25 following the union’s sudden national strike.

While postal services will begin to resume next week, uncertainty and instability in the postal service will continue with the union’s decision to conduct rotating strikes.

Shutting down and restarting parts of our integrated national network with rotating strikes has always challenged our ability to provide reliable service to customers. As a result, all service guarantees will be suspended.

Moving from a full, national strike to rotating strikes

With CUPW’s announcement to move to rotating strikes starting Saturday, October 11 at 6:00 am local time, we will have to manage both resuming operations and potential disruption at select facilities. At this time, we are not aware of which locations will be impacted when rotating strike activity begins.

What to expect during rotating strikes

Rotating strike activity may be isolated to specific locations, affecting those areas for a specified period of time.

During a rotating strike, Canada Post will accept, process and deliver mail and parcels in unaffected areas, but you can still expect delays.

Once an item is inducted in our network, it will be secure but cannot be retrieved if that facility is affected by a rotating strike. Items will be delivered as quickly as possible after a disruption is over and operations resume.

I saw in your statement you said "Israeli families" & "the people of Gaza."
Palestinians have families, too.
This kind of language contributes to dehumanization. Dehumanization is part of what caused so many to stay silent as 20,000 children were killed in this genocide.
I've sat with wonderful Palestinian families from Gaza. They look at their children just like we look at ours - with all the love & hope in the world.

Israel insists that the only path to peace is for Israel to keep at least half of Gaza under forced military occupation, when we all know the only path to peace is to give them their freedom, their land, their sovereignty, and their national identity back, then leave them the fuck alone!

Ceasefire Updates

Under the plan the Israeli Cabinet approved late on Thursday evening, the Israeli military will retain control of roughly 53% of Gaza and redeploy to the “yellow line” mapped in the Trump plan, with a ceasefire beginning within 24 hours of the cabinet meeting. Bedrosian said a 72-hour period will follow for the release and repatriation of all Israeli hostages, living and deceased, while humanitarian aid—including food, medicine, and fuel—enters Gaza under coordination with international organizations and Egypt, calling the deal a historic step mediated by Qatar, the United States, Egypt, and Turkey.

Teachers protecting public education

Had teachers accepted the offered memorandum of understanding, they would have been complicit in eroding public education in Alberta. Instead, they have chosen to sacrifice their paycheques and the financial welfare of their families to preserve and protect public education.

Public education is the foundation of our democracy. It alone ensures that all children are given an equal opportunity to achieve their full potential. However, severely under-funding public education while dramatically increasing taxpayer dollars to private education, which thrives on being exclusionary, is creating two-tiered education in our province. Two-tiered education will ultimately lead to a two-tiered society, which inevitably will weaken, or even destroy, our democracy.

Gazans are celebrating and rejoicing that Israel is "killing fewer of them" during the ceasefire announcement, and that a ceasefire is on the horizon!

But I remember last time this happened, when they were mocked and scorned then hundreds were killed DURING the ceasefire and thousands after.
