I *wish* we could explain away a third term for jacob Frey as ranked choice voting’s fault. That would be weirdly comforting to me! But sometimes the truth is simpler—and pretty uncomfortable. We don’t do uncomfortable here. 🙁
My RCV take: It’s not preventing Minneapolis progressives from achieving desired city-wide results. It is actually showing that progressives are close even when not winning. And it’s affirming something about the electorate that we don’t understand, can’t accept, or don’t know what to do about.

What I am saying is that a distressingly large chunk of the electorate was never going to be won over. For them, none of Frey’s failures and lies has been a dealbreaker, and wouldn’t be if we scrapped RCV. We have never reckoned with everything that led to George Floyd’s murder, and we still won’t
