This is objectively untrue. Shutdown starts Jan 30. That doesn't change w/o Dem votes. Nor any non-reconciliation legislation. Also other kinds of obstruction and forcing votes.

The minority party is not completely powerless, esp. in the Senate. If they pretend to be, that is a choice, not reality.
They don't have any power to do anything. They have none. Zero. Zilch. Everything else is virtue signaling. It's futile gestures.

The Trump administration has said it was improving the SSA. A year in, it looks like the mess that everyone else predicted. Not enough staff, manipulation of numbers and declining performance.

Embodies the underlying weirdness of this government - the minister in question hasn't tweeted for *OVER A YEAR* because the site is a cesspit.
Cabinet Office Minister Baroness Anderson tells the Lords the Government will keep on using X.

"I still believe that X is an appropriate platform to use because I believe in freedom of speech..."

"It is incredibly important that there is a counter narrative on those platforms," she says.

hes not right at all. the republicans are part of the crew looting the bank. the response is not to say "the looters must stop looting." he should be saying "theyre all a bunch of looters, elect us to stop looting, we are the anti-looting party" but that would be effective and schumer is not.
A lot of people are mad at Schumer for saying this. But he's right. Democrats don't control a single branch of government and they can't pass anything. Only Republicans can rein in Trump because they control both chambers of Congress. Democrats have no cards to play here.
Schumer: "Republicans must -- if there was ever a time, they must step up to the plate. This is the time. And if they don't, they're gonna feel the heat from their constituents."

if the us seizes greenland the eu will say they're gravely concerned about violations of national sovereignty and will closely monitor the situation. they would say that if trump nuked paris too
the obvious answer is also that if the US seizes greenland, europe will be booting US troops off the continent and talking about they can sever economic ties, which would make us poorer and less safe - all for a landmass which has at best tertiary material and strategic value

Yeah, it has long been the case that adult-oriented businesses have to be careful or risk the wrath of everyone from prosecutors to payment-processing companies, but "prominent social media company owned by world's richest person swiftly became world's largest CSAM producer" produces no reaction.
Elon Musk chatbot repeatedly making CSAM on demand should be one of the single biggest stories right now and it's effectively a collective shrug instead

Hi Friends!

I know a bunch of you are wondering what Walz dropping out of the race means. It's ultimately a good decision - it would've been better for him not to run in the first place, but here we are. The last few weeks were just a preview of what was going to be a very hard election.

Q: Rodriguez called it a 'kidnapping' of Maduro

Something a media organization might do is state in the headline (or article!) that Kelly was absolutely right. That could be relevant and perhaps even crucial for the reader to know
The Pentagon will cut the military retirement pay of Sen. Mark Kelly for what Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the Arizona Democrat’s “seditious” statements on a video telling service members they have the right to refuse to execute illegal orders.

For non-Minnesotans: the feeling among Democrats was that Walz was pushing his luck running for a third term (there’s never been a three-term gov in Minnesota’s history) and for various reasons was a potential liability to the party down ballot. This is a surprise, but not a big one.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz abruptly reversed course Monday and ended his campaign for a third term, a humbling political crash from his meteoric rise to the national Democratic presidential ticket in 2024.

Gov. Tim Walz was three months into a reelection campaign that has been plagued by criticism over his handling of fraud and political opposition stirred up by President Donald Trump.

Don’t think I’ll be paying much attention to what people from outside Minnesota have to say about Walz as in most cases they really do not have a clue.

Then again, I may not pay attention to many of the fine folks in MN either, but I’m happy to read everyone’s rants about A-Klo.

One point from Steve: The Chief Justice is also the prominent head of the entire federal judiciary. But in his year-end report, he passed on the opportunity to call out the vicious attacks on judicial independence where many federal judges & their families' physical safety have been threatened.
Today’s regular issue of “One First” looks closely at Chief Justice Roberts’s 2025 year-end report on the federal judiciary, and asks, given all of the (unaddressed) events of the past 12 months, exactly *who* the audience is supposed to be.

(TL;DR: I’m not sure, and I’m not sure he knows, either.)
201. Who is the Chief Justice's Audience?
Reading between the lines, there's a lot to commend in Chief Justice Roberts's year-end report. Measured against the year that was, though, its subtleties are for an increasingly shrinking audience.
